Create a Full System Information Report Using Msinfo32
The About page answers three questions. Msinfo32 answers three hundred — every device, driver and setting Windows knows about, organised in one window, and exportable as a single file you can keep or send.

The second traditional tool in the video is msinfo32 — the System Information window. Where the About page is a summary card, this is the full file: hardware resources, every component with its driver, and the software environment, all read from Windows itself. This page shows you how to open it, which lines actually matter, how to find one device quickly, and how to export the whole thing as a text report — the file technicians ask for and the best before picture you can take of a PC.

The System Summary page of msinfo32. Values shown are from one example machine; your summary lists your own hardware line by line.
1
Open System Information
Press Windows + R, type msinfo32 and press Enter
Or press the Windows key and type System Information
Nothing to download — this tool has been part of Windows for years. It opens on System Summary, with a tree on the left: Hardware Resources, Components and Software Environment.
2
Read the System Summary First
The summary page alone answers most professional questions:
OS Name and Version — the exact Windows edition and build
System Manufacturer and System Model — the maker and model of the machine or board
Processor — model, cores and speed in one long line
BIOS Version/Date — essential before any BIOS update
BaseBoard Manufacturer and BaseBoard Product — your motherboard, named exactly
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) — the total, with total physical and virtual memory below it
3
Find One Device Without Hunting Through the Tree
Use the Find what box at the bottom of the window — type a word like display or disk and click Find
For the graphics card directly: open Components → Display — name, driver version and driver date are all listed
For drives: Components → Storage → Disks shows model, size and partitions for every disk
Software Environment → System Drivers and Running Tasks are the sections a technician reads when a PC misbehaves after a change
4
Export the Report as a Text File
Click File → Export
Choose a name like my-pc-report.txt and save it to the Desktop
Wait for it to finish — a full export can take a few minutes and the file can be several megabytes. That is normal; do not close the tool early
Export makes a plain .txt file that opens anywhere and attaches to any email. Be careful with the neighbour option: File → Save creates an .nfo file that opens only inside System Information — the wrong choice when you want to send the report to someone else.
5
Save One Report as Your PC's Before Picture ⭐
Here is the habit that separates careful technicians from guessers: export this report before you change drivers, update the BIOS or swap hardware, and keep it. If anything behaves strangely afterwards, the old report and the new one show exactly what changed.
The same file is gold when you sell the machine — a complete, honest specification written by Windows itself carries more weight than a verbal list, and it answers the buyer's questions before they ask.
⏳ Exporting feels slow? A full export walks every driver and device on the system, so a few minutes and a multi-megabyte text file are both normal. Let it finish — an interrupted export is the only useless one.
🎥 Watch the Traditional Checks and the CPU-Z Method
The video shows msinfo32 alongside the About page, then moves to CPU-Z for the slot-by-slot details — the full flow is in the video.
What is the difference between Export and Save in msinfo32?
Export creates a plain text (.txt) file that anyone can open in Notepad, which is what you want for sending or storing a report. Save creates an .nfo file that can only be opened inside the System Information tool itself — useful for reopening later on the same PC, useless as an attachment for someone else.
Does msinfo32 show my graphics card and its driver?
Yes. Open Components, then Display — you will see the adapter name, the driver version and the driver date, which is exactly what a support desk needs when a display problem starts after an update. For the card's true dedicated VRAM figure, confirm on the Task Manager GPU page, because several tools report dedicated plus shared memory together.
Is msinfo32 available on every Windows PC?
Yes — System Information is built into Windows 10 and Windows 11, with nothing to install and no internet needed. Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and it opens on any machine, which is why it is usually the first deep check on an unfamiliar PC.
