Two People One Tally PC the Remote Access Route That Stays Legal
One licence does not have to mean one chair. If the second person reaches the licensed PC itself — remotely — the licence is never stretched. Here is how that arrangement works, and exactly where its honest limit sits.

🎥 Full video — what happens with one licence on two PCs, and the workable arrangements
This is the arrangement most small offices actually land on: one accounts PC holds the licence and the data, and the second person reaches that machine instead of running their own copy. Nothing is copied, patched or shared against the rules. This page covers both remote routes — full remote desktop, and Tallys built-in remote access — and the one limit neither can cross.
One Licensed PC, Two People — the Legal Layout
The licensed machine
✅ TallyPrime installed and licence active on PC 1 only
✅ Company data lives on PC 1, backed up daily
The second person
✅ Connects to PC 1 by remote desktop — sees and works on PC 1 itself
✅ Or uses Tallys own remote access to view data and reports
❌ Does not run a second licensed copy of Tally somewhere else
The trick is not a trick: there is still only one Tally, on one PC. The second person is simply reaching that PC from somewhere else.
1
The Idea in One Line
A Silver licence limits where Tally runs, not how many eyes can reach that one running Tally. If the second person connects to the licensed PC and works on that PC through a remote session, the licence count never changes — there is still exactly one TallyPrime, on one machine, using one licence.
2
Route A — Remote Desktop to the Tally PC
Keep TallyPrime and its data on the one good PC — call it the accounts PC.
Person 1 works sitting at that PC, as usual.
Person 2 connects to the same PC using a remote desktop tool when Person 1 is not actively using the desk — for example the owner checking and entering from home in the evening.
Agree on timing discipline: a normal Windows PC allows one interactive session at a time, so this is a sharing arrangement, not true simultaneous work.
Be honest about that last point: remote desktop on a regular desktop Windows shares the single session. Two people cannot type into the same Windows desktop at the same moment. Where this route shines is different hours — office by day, owner review from home by night.
3
Route B — Tallys Own Remote Access
TallyPrime itself offers remote capabilities through its connected services: with an active TSS subscription, authorised users can access company data remotely and view reports through a browser, without opening a second copy of Tally at all. This is the right tool when the second person mostly needs to see — outstanding reports, ledgers, stock — rather than enter vouchers all day. It is a viewing-and-light-work route, not a second billing counter.
🔴 When this page is not your answer: if both people must enter vouchers simultaneously for hours every day, no arrangement of remotes changes the maths — one seat is one seat. That office needs Gold, and forcing Silver into that job will cost more in daily friction than the upgrade difference.

The video above walks through what actually happens when one Tally licence meets two PCs, step by step, on screen.
Can two people type in Tally at the exact same moment using remote desktop on one PC?
No. A normal Windows desktop allows one interactive session at a time, so remote desktop sharing is turn-taking: the second person works when the first is not actively at the desk. For true simultaneous entry by two people, Tally Gold is the designed product.
Is using Tallys remote access against the Silver licence?
No. Remote access through Tallys connected services is a feature Tally itself provides with an active TSS subscription. The licence stays on the one machine; the remote user views data and reports through Tallys own channel rather than running another licensed copy.
What should the accounts PC be like for this arrangement?
It becomes the single home of your books, so treat it like one: the most reliable PC in the office, plugged into a UPS, with Tally data backed up daily to a separate location, and a Windows password that is not shared beyond the people who should reach it.
