Download the Office 2024 Image Once and Keep It for Every Future Install
The smartest part of the image method is not the first install — it is every install after that. One verified copy of the official image, kept safe, turns future Windows resets and new PCs into one-minute jobs instead of fresh 4 GB downloads.

🎥 The video downloads the image once — this page shows how to keep that download working for you
Most people delete a 4 GB installer the moment setup finishes, then download it all over again after the next Windows reset. With Office 2024's official retail image that is wasted effort: the file never expires, contains the complete suite, and installs entirely offline. Here is how to keep it properly — stored, verified, and paired with the one thing it does not contain, your licence.
Your keeper file — what to store with it

Keep beside itA note of the Microsoft account your key is redeemed on
Contains a licence?No — installer only
The image plus one note — which account owns the licence — is a complete reinstall kit. The key itself should stay in your account, not in a text file beside the installer.
1
Download once, from the official link only
Your keeper copy should be the untouched file from Microsoft's CDN — the Home image at officecdn.microsoft.com or the Home and Business image, matching your licence. A file from anywhere else cannot be trusted as a long-term master copy, however fast it downloaded.
2
Verify the file before you archive it
A truncated or damaged download can sit quietly for months and fail exactly when you need it. Prove the file is whole right after downloading:
Open Command Prompt in the download folder
Run certutil -hashfile "Home2024Retail.img" SHA256 and keep the hash with your note
If setup ever errors in its first seconds, compare the hash again — a changed hash means the file is damaged and should be downloaded fresh
3
Store it like a tool, not a download
Keep one copy on a data drive or external disk, not on the Windows drive you might reset
A second copy on a USB stick makes a tidy rescue kit alongside your Windows installer
Name the folder plainly: edition, language and year — for example Office 2024 Home en-us — so future-you knows exactly what it is
4
Reuse it on every PC you own — licence per PC ⭐
The image can be copied and installed anywhere; that part is unrestricted because it is just Microsoft's installer. The rule sits with activation: one Office 2024 licence covers one PC or Mac.
Reinstalling on the same PC after a reset — same licence, sign in with the same account, done
A second PC — install from the same image, activate with that PC's own licence
Helping a friend — lend the image freely; their PC needs their licence, never your key
5
Install offline, activate when ready
Because the image is complete, setup runs with no internet at all — useful on a fresh Windows install before drivers and browsers are sorted. Office will simply ask for sign-in or a key the first time it can reach the internet, and works in its short grace mode until then.
🔴 Keep the image and the licence note together, the key itself in your account. A product key stored in a plain text file next to the installer is a key waiting to be copied. Redeemed on your Microsoft account, it cannot be lost with a folder.

Does the Office 2024 image expire or stop working later?
No. The retail image is a fixed release of Office 2024 and installs the same way years later. Microsoft may publish an updated image at the same links, but a copy you keep remains fully usable.
Can I put the image on a USB stick and install from it?
Yes. Copy the .img file, or its extracted Setup.exe and folders, to a USB stick and run Setup inside Windows on the target PC. Note it is not a bootable installer — it runs from within Windows, unlike a Windows setup USB.
Is sharing the image file with others allowed?
The image itself is Microsoft's public download, so passing the file along is no different from sending someone the link. Licences are the private part: sharing your product key or account is against the licence terms and can get the key deactivated.
