Theme, fonts, aliases, branding - everything is one small folder on the stick. Back it up before a wipe or a new drive, and restoring your whole Ventoy personality takes minutes.
A finished Ventoy customisation - theme, wallpaper, fonts, aliases, your branding - feels like a lot of work, but on disk it is one small folder. Everything Ventoy knows about your setup lives in the ventoy folder on the data partition. Back that folder up and a wiped or replaced stick is a ten-minute restore instead of an evening of redesign. This guide covers exactly what to copy, what not to bother with, and the restore order.
The settings file alone is not a backup. ventoy.json points at theme folders, font files and icon files - restore the JSON without them and every pointer is broken. Copy the entire ventoy folder from the data partition: the JSON, the theme folder with its wallpaper and pf2 fonts, menu class icons if you use them, and any other plugin files you rely on. It is normally only a few megabytes. Store it on your PC in a folder named with the Ventoy version it was built on and the date, and keep a second copy with your regular backups.

Refresh the backup after every design change and after every Ventoy version jump, and write the version in the backup folder's name so future-you knows what it belongs to.

No. That partition holds Ventoy's own boot files and is recreated by the Ventoy installer on every install. Your part is only the data partition: ISOs (separately, if you want them) and the ventoy settings folder.
Almost always, yes - the format is stable. After restoring, open VentoyPlugson once and save from the Theme Plugin page so the file is rewritten in the current format, and remember some options need minimum versions (theme switching 1.0.62+, resolution_fit 1.0.86+).
