No Enroll now link is the single most common ESU complaint. Almost always, one rung of this ladder explains it. Work from the top — do not jump to reinstalls or registry edits.
You open Windows Update expecting the enrolment offer and see only the end-of-support warning — no Enroll now link at all. That screen does not mean your PC is banned or that ESU has closed. Microsoft gates the offer behind its prerequisites, and the offer also rolls out in phases. This guide is a ladder, in order — each rung is a documented cause, how to check it, and what finishing it looks like. Stop at the rung that fixes you, and ignore any site that skips the ladder and sells you a script.
The classic missing-button screen. Note the pending updates — on most PCs, that single line is the whole explanation. Panel values shown as an example.
Start here, even if Windows Update claims you are up to date. Microsoft requires the latest update installed plus the ESU Licensing Preparation Package KB5126256 before the offer appears.
If an update itself keeps failing, fix that failure first using Windows Update Troubleshooter under Settings → Update and Security → Troubleshoot. ESU cannot appear on a PC whose update system is broken.
Two silent blockers live outside Windows Update itself.
winver, press Enter. Anything below 22H2 will not show the offer. Update to 22H2 through Windows Update or the official Windows 10 Update Assistant from Microsoft, then return to Rung One.Also confirm your edition — Home, Professional, Pro Education or Workstations. Enterprise and LTSC PCs do not get the consumer offer at all; see the eligibility guide before spending more time here.
If updates are clean, the build is 22H2 and the account is right, check the two causes you cannot fix by clicking harder.
Honest expectation — Microsoft states you can enrol at any time until the programme ends on 12 October 2027. A missing button today is a delay, not a lost deadline, as long as you keep the PC updated in the meantime.
Still missing after the first three rungs? Do these safe verifications, then wait and recheck rather than escalating to risky fixes.
sfc /scannow in an admin Command Prompt to repair damaged system files that can break Windows Update components, then restart and check again. Copy the command exactly as shown.Never download an ESU enabler, activator or licence-preparation file from a forum, video description or file-sharing link. The genuine preparation package KB5126256 arrives only through Windows Update. Third-party enablers are a known malware route, and an enrolment created by one is not a Microsoft licence — it can vanish with the next update, leaving you unpatched while believing you are covered.
See the Enroll Now flow, sign-in and the free enrolment finish exactly as it appears on a real Windows 10 PC.
▶️ Watch Full VideoThe most common remaining causes are a pending update including the ESU Licensing Preparation Package KB5126256 that has not installed yet, sign-in with a standard, local-only or child account instead of an administrator Microsoft account, a managed work PC that is excluded from consumer ESU, or a phased rollout that has not reached your device yet. Work through the ladder in order before assuming anything is broken.
No honest method does this. The offer is controlled by Microsoft through Windows Update once prerequisites are met. Registry edits and third-party enabler scripts found online are not Microsoft ESU, can carry malware and do not create a real licence. Use only Settings and updates delivered through Windows Update.
Microsoft states enrolment stays open until the programme ends on 12 October 2027, and PCs already enrolled continue automatically to that date. That said, every week unenrolled after support ended on 14 October 2025 is a week without new security fixes, so enrol as soon as the option appears rather than waiting deliberately.
