Access Winflector Apps From Outside the Office Safely
Inside the office, Winflector just works. The moment staff need it from home or another branch, you are making a security decision — not just a network setting. Here are the options, in the order you should prefer them.

A published application that holds your accounts or billing data is valuable, and the internet is full of automated scanners looking for open remote-access logins. So this guide is deliberately ordered: the safest method first, the common shortcut second — with its real risks stated plainly, so you choose with open eyes.
Router — port forwarding, shown with its warning
🔀 Forward — internet port 6601 → server 192.168.1.10 port 6601Exposed to internet
🔐 Login page — reachable by anyone who finds the addressPassword attacks 24x7
🛡️ Safer route — VPN first, then Winflector inside the office networkRecommended
☝️ Port forwarding works — but it puts your login page in front of the whole internet. A VPN keeps it private
1
Best Option — VPN First, Then Winflector
Set up VPN access to the office (most business routers and firewalls offer it, and mesh tools like Tailscale are another clean route)
The user connects the VPN, then opens Winflector exactly as if they were sitting in the office — same server address, same login
Nothing about Winflector is exposed to the public internet at all. This is the setup to choose whenever it is available
2
The Shortcut — Port Forwarding, With Eyes Open
If you forward a port on the router to the Winflector server, understand exactly what you have done: anyone on the internet can now reach your login page and try passwords, day and night. If you still choose this route, these are not optional:
Every account gets a long, unique password — no names, no phone numbers, no shared office password
Turn on the encrypted connection options (Winflector supports encrypted transmission; commercial licences add proper SSL configuration for HTML5 clients)
Forward only the ports Winflector needs — the native client port 6601 and your configured web port — never a whole range
Keep Winflector and Windows fully updated, and read the login log (trmlogin.log in the server's applogs folder) regularly for failed attempts
3
Handle a Changing Public IP
Most small-office internet connections have a dynamic public IP that changes. Users then complain the address stopped working — nothing is broken, the address moved
Use a DDNS hostname (many routers have this built in) so users always connect to a name like office-xxxx.ddns.net instead of a number
Or ask the ISP for a static IP if the connection is business-critical — it costs extra, and for Winflector alone a VPN or DDNS setup usually makes it unnecessary
4
Before You Announce It to Staff
Test from a genuinely outside connection (mobile data with office Wi-Fi off) — not from inside the office
Confirm each user sees only their own applications after login
Decide who is allowed outside access at all. Not every account needs it, and every extra exposed account is extra risk
🔴 Never expose the server raw and hope. A forwarded port with weak passwords is how small offices get their accounting data encrypted by ransomware gangs who never even knew the office existed — their scanners found the open login automatically.

The video shows the Winflector setup end to end — combine it with the VPN-first approach in this guide before opening access to staff at home.
Technically yes, by forwarding the Winflector ports on the office router. But that exposes the login page to the whole internet, so it should only be done with strong unique passwords, encryption enabled and regular log checks. A VPN in front is the safer and recommended design.
Users say the address stopped working after some days. Why?
Most likely the office internet connection has a dynamic public IP that changed. Give the connection a DDNS hostname or a static IP so the address users connect to stays the same.
Does Winflector encrypt the connection?
Winflector supports encrypted transmission, and commercial licences add SSL certificate configuration for HTML5 browser clients. The free version does not include that additional SSL option for HTML5 clients — one more reason a VPN in front is the safer design on the free version.
