🔧 Winflector Troubleshooting

Winflector Published App Not Opening for Remote Users Fix

The app is published, the user logs in, clicks it — and nothing opens, or an error appears. This failure has a short list of real causes. Check them in this order and you will find yours.

When a published app refuses to open, users usually blame the application. In practice the problem is almost always one level lower: the server is not reachable, the server service is not running, the published path is wrong, or all licence seats are busy. Work through the checks below from the top — each one takes a minute, and the log files at the end will name the cause if the checks do not.

Winflector client — connection problem
🖥️ Server — 192.168.1.10 · port 6601Not responding
📊 TallyPrime — published applicationClick does nothing
tcllog.txt (client log): connection to server failed check server address, port and firewall
☝️ The client clearly shows it cannot reach the server — that is a network or service problem, not an application problem
1

Check the Server Is Running

  1. Go to the server PC and confirm the Winflector server (wfserver.exe) is actually started — a reboot, a Windows update or someone closing the program stops it for everyone
  2. Confirm the application itself opens normally on the server PC. If it fails locally, fix that first; Winflector cannot publish a broken app
  3. Check the server PC is awake and on the network — open a command prompt on the user PC and run ping 192.168.1.10 with your server's real address
2

Check Firewall and Port 6601

The native Winflector client connects to the server on port 6601 by default, and browser users connect to the built-in web server port. If a firewall blocks either, login or launch fails.

  1. On the server, open Windows Defender Firewall and confirm the Winflector server is allowed on the office (private) network
  2. Test the port from the user PC in PowerShell: Test-NetConnection 192.168.1.10 -Port 6601 — TcpTestSucceeded : True means the path is open
  3. If it fails inside the office, the block is on the server or a network firewall. If it works in the office but not from outside, the router forwarding or VPN is the problem — see the outside-office access guide
3

Check the Published Path and Working Folder

  1. In the server settings, open the published application and verify the program path still exists — an app update or reinstall often moves the .exe
  2. Verify the working directory matches the folder the program expects. Many accounting and billing apps fail silently when started from the wrong folder because they cannot find their data or licence files
  3. Re-publish with the corrected path and test again from one user PC before announcing the fix
4

Check Whether All Licence Seats Are Busy

Winflector licences count concurrent devices — devices connected right now, not total users. The free version allows only 2. If two devices are already in, the third user is refused even though their login is correct.

  1. Look at the server console and count the currently connected devices
  2. Close sessions that are finished or stuck — a disconnected session that was never closed can hold a seat
  3. If refusals happen daily, the honest fix is more licences, sized by how many people are connected at the busiest hour — not by total staff count
5

Read the Log Files

When the checks above do not name the cause, the logs will.

  1. On the server, open the applogs folder inside the Winflector server installation — files like trmlogin.log (logins), trmactiv.log (activity) and trmexcpt.log (errors) record what happened
  2. On the user PC, the client writes tcllog.txt in the logs folder of the client installation
  3. Match the time of the failed attempt in both logs — together they almost always show whether it was reachability, login, licence or the application itself
🔴 Change one thing at a time. If you adjust the firewall, the path and the licence in one go and it starts working, you will never know which one was broken — and it will break again. One fix, one test.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

The app opens for some users but not for one user. Why?

That pattern points at the user, not the server: check that this user is actually assigned to the application in the server settings, that their password is correct, and that their device is not the one being refused because all licence seats are busy.

The app opens on the server but fails only for remote users. What is different?

Usually the working directory or the program path. Locally you start the app from its own folder or shortcut, which hides the mistake. Winflector starts exactly what you published — path and working folder must both be right.

Where do I find Winflector error logs?

Server diagnostics are saved in the applogs subfolder of the server installation (trmactiv.log, trmexcpt.log, trmlogin.log, tapplog.txt). Client diagnostics are in tcllog.txt inside the logs subfolder of the client installation.
