Install and Configure miniOrange 2FA for Jira and Confluence
The install itself takes minutes. Doing it in the right order - checklist first, safety switches on, tested with your own account - is what this page is for.

Watch the full setup in the video - every miniOrange setting, screen by screen
This is the hands on page of the series: installing the miniOrange 2FA app on Jira, configuring the first method, and repeating it on Confluence. The video above shows every screen live - this text is your checklist to work beside it.
Jira administration - where the setup lives
Administration - Manage apps
1. Find apps - search miniOrange 2FA
2. Install - apply trial or licence key
miniOrange 2FA configuration
3. Enable method - Authenticator app (TOTP)
4. Brute force protection - ON
5. Enable for group - 2fa-pilot
The five stops of the install. Menu names can differ slightly between Jira versions and app versions - the order stays the same.
1
Before you click install - the honest checklist
You are a Jira administrator, and you have a maintenance window or at least a quiet hour
You have a second admin account available, tested and working
You know your hosting - this app is for self hosted Jira Server and Data Center and the matching app is for Confluence. Cloud takes a different route entirely
A backup of Jira exists, as before any plugin change
2
Install the app in Jira
Open Administration and go to Manage apps
Choose Find new apps and search for the miniOrange two factor authentication app for Jira
Click install, accept the permissions, and wait for the success message
Start the trial or enter your licence key when prompted
The app is paid via Atlassian and licensed per user. The trial is the right way to begin - it lets the whole pilot run before any purchase decision.
3
Configure the first method and the safety switches
Open the miniOrange 2FA configuration from the administration area
Enable the authenticator app (TOTP) method as the default
Enable a backup method such as email OTP for recovery situations
Turn on brute force protection so repeated wrong codes are blocked
Optionally enable remember device for a sensible number of days on trusted office machines
Save everything, then log out and test with your own account in a private window
The video shows this configuration screen by screen on a live instance - if a label on your version differs slightly, the video is the fastest way to match it.
4
Repeat on Confluence - it is a separate app
Jira and Confluence use separate miniOrange apps with separate licences. Install the Confluence 2FA app the same way, mirror the same method choices, and pilot it with the same group. Keeping both products configured the same way means users learn one habit, not two - and your support answers stay identical.

The full installation and configuration, done live on a real Jira and Confluence instance, step by step.
Is the Jira app and the Confluence app the same licence
No. miniOrange sells the 2FA app for Jira and the 2FA app for Confluence as separate Marketplace listings, each licensed per user for that product. Budget for both if you run both, and run the trial on both during your pilot.
Which Jira versions does the miniOrange 2FA app support
The Marketplace listing covers recent Jira Server and Data Center releases, and it is updated as new Jira versions ship. Check the version compatibility on the Marketplace listing against your exact Jira version before installing.
Do I need to restart Jira after installing the app
Marketplace apps install without a Jira restart in normal cases. Plan the work for a quiet hour anyway, and test the login flow with your own account immediately after configuring, before any user group is enabled.
