Cursor Blinks Everywhere Except Tally How to Isolate the Fault
Notepad blinks. Word blinks. Tally does not. That pattern tells you exactly where the fault is — and, just as usefully, where it is not. This guide shows the short test and the fixes that match a Tally-only cursor problem.
🎥 For the server-wide version of this problem, the one minute fix is in this video
Most cursor guides send you straight to Windows settings. But when the cursor blinks happily in every other program, the Windows blink setting is already proven good — by your own test. A Tally-only problem points at the application or at the session it is running in, and it deserves its own, shorter checklist.

The Tally-only pattern — every other app blinks in the same session. Panel is an illustration of test results.
1
The Two Minute Isolation Test
Do not guess — isolate. Stay in the same Windows session, as the same user, and test three typing fields in a row:
Open Notepad, click inside, watch the cursor for five seconds
Open any other program you use, such as Word or Excel, and repeat
Go back to Tally and click into a voucher field
If the cursor blinks everywhere except Tally, Windows' blink setting is already fine — changing it again will not help, and reinstalling Windows would be a costly mistake. The fault lives in the app or its session.
2
Restart Tally Properly, Then the Session
Tally sessions that have been open for days can hold stale display behaviour, especially inside long-lived TSplus or RDP sessions:
Save your work and close Tally completely
Reopen Tally and test the same field
Still stuck? Sign out of Windows fully (not just disconnect) and sign back in
Open Tally fresh and test again
Honest expectation: this clears session-level glitches only. If the cursor is missing in every fresh Tally session, move to the next step instead of restarting daily.
3
Repair or Update Tally Itself
When only one application misbehaves, that application is a legitimate suspect:
Note your exact Tally version from the Help or about screen
Download the current release or a repair installer only from Tally Solutions' official website — never from a third-party download portal
Back up your Tally data folder before any repair or update
Install, restart the server if asked, and test as the affected user
On a shared server, schedule this like any other maintenance — an update in the middle of billing hours helps nobody.
4
Check Whether It Follows the User or the Machine
One more split that saves hours:
Ask a colleague to open Tally in their session on the same server and test a field
If their cursor blinks and yours does not, the problem follows your profile — go back to the per-user fix in the main guide
If no one's cursor blinks in Tally but other apps are fine for everyone, the problem follows the Tally installation or the server's session host setup — that is the repair route in Fix 3
Two minutes of testing here decides which guide you should be following at all.
🔴 Resist the big repairs. A Tally-only cursor problem is not a reason to reinstall Windows, change the graphics driver or buy a new mouse. Your isolation test already cleared those. Stay with the app and session steps above.

The cursor blinks in Notepad but not in Tally. Is my Windows setting fine?
Yes — that test proves it. The blink-rate setting is shared by all programs in your session, so if Notepad blinks, the setting is working. Look at Tally itself and at the session it runs in, not at Windows.
Will reinstalling Tally delete my company data?
A repair or update installed over the existing setup does not remove your companies, but the safe habit is unchanged: back up the complete Tally data folder first, and only use installers from Tally Solutions' official website.
It blinks for my colleague in Tally but not for me. What does that mean?
The problem follows your user profile, not Tally and not the server. Go back to the main fix and apply it inside your own Windows account on the server — per-user settings explain this pattern exactly.
