Wi-Fi Connected But No Internet - How Do I Fix It with CMD
Your PC is connected to the router, the signal is full, but no website opens. In most cases the connection settings inside Windows are stuck — and five classic commands clear them out. Follow them in order.

This problem confuses everyone: the Wi-Fi icon says Connected, yet the browser says there is no internet. The router is usually fine — what breaks is the PC's own network state: an old IP address that no longer works, a corrupted DNS cache, or a damaged Winsock catalog after a software install or Windows update. The fix is to reset that state from Command Prompt. First, open CMD properly: right-click the Start button and choose Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) — the reset commands in steps 3 and 4 need administrator rights. Run each command, press Enter, and wait for it to finish before typing the next one.

1
Release the Old IP Address
Your PC may be holding an IP address the router no longer accepts. Drop it:
Type ipconfig /release and press Enter
The internet will disconnect completely for a moment — this is normal
2
Renew — Ask the Router for a Fresh IP
Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter
Wait a few seconds while Windows requests a new address from the router (DHCP)
Try opening a website — for many people the problem ends right here
3
Flush the DNS Cache
DNS turns website names into addresses. Windows caches those answers, and a stale cache can block sites even when the connection works.
Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter
You should see the message "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache"
Administrator: Command Prompt
C:\Windows\System32>ipconfig /flushdns
Windows IP Configuration
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

4
Reset Winsock and the TCP/IP Stack
If the internet still does not work, reset the deeper network components. These two commands rebuild them to their clean default state:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
Restart the PC — the resets only take effect after a restart, so do not skip it

Verify the Result ⭐
After restarting, confirm the connection in two quick tests:
ping 8.8.8.8 — if you get replies, your internet line itself is working
ping google.com — if this also replies, name resolution (DNS) is healthy too
Command Prompt
C:\Users\Anshu>ping 8.8.8.8
Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=14ms TTL=117
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=117
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=13ms TTL=117
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=117
Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss)
👆 A healthy ping result — four replies, 0% loss (times vary by connection; window recreated with the real output format)
If the first ping works but the second fails, only DNS is broken — set your adapter's DNS server to 8.8.8.8 in Settings, or ask your ISP. The full video shows the complete network section of the CMD toolkit, including how to read ping results like a technician.
⚠️ Honest limit: these commands fix the network settings inside your PC. If no device in the house has internet, the fault is with the router or your ISP's line — restart the router once, and if that fails, the commands cannot help; call the provider.

No. The release command only drops the current IP address. Running ipconfig /renew right after it asks the router for a fresh address, and the connection returns within seconds.
The commands show an error about elevation. What should I do?
The netsh reset commands need administrator rights. Close the window and reopen Command Prompt with right-click on Start → Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin), then run them again.
I restarted after the netsh commands and Wi-Fi disappeared from the list. Why?
A reset does not delete your Wi-Fi networks or passwords. If the network list is empty, wait a minute for the adapter to restart — or toggle Wi-Fi off and on once. If it still does not appear, update or reinstall the Wi-Fi driver from Device Manager.
