A store that cannot take money is just a catalogue. Bagisto ships with real payment options built in — including Razorpay for India — but each gateway is a separate business account with its own approval and fees. This page explains the honest order: account first, test mode second, live money last.
Payment setup is where many first-time store owners get stuck, because two different things are being configured at once: Bagisto's payment settings, and your merchant account with the gateway company. Bagisto's own documentation lists the built-in methods — cash on delivery, money transfer, PayPal, Stripe, Razorpay, PayU and PhonePe among them — but enabling one in the admin panel only works after the gateway has approved you as a merchant. Plan for that gap, and test everything in sandbox mode before a real rupee moves.
Example checkout for an Indian store. Every online method needs its own approved merchant account; only cash on delivery works with no third party at all.
Cash on delivery (COD) is a built-in Bagisto payment method that needs no gateway, no approval and no fees, which makes it the perfect first method: enable it, place test orders, and prove the full flow — cart, checkout, order email, invoice, shipping status — works end to end. Many Indian shops keep COD permanently because a large share of customers still prefer it. Its honest cost is operational: some COD orders get refused at the door, and that loss is yours, so COD pairs well with order confirmation calls for high-value items.
For online payments, apply to your chosen gateway — Razorpay is the common Indian choice and is built into Bagisto — as soon as you decide to sell, not on launch day. The gateway will verify your business with KYC documents (identity, address and bank details, plus business papers where applicable), and approval can take days. Only after approval do you receive the API keys that Bagisto's payment settings ask for. Keep those keys private like passwords: anyone holding them can act as your store's money pipe.
Every gateway charges a percentage of each transaction; the exact figure is in your gateway agreement, varies by plan and payment type, and is not set or removable by Bagisto. Card payments also follow the gateway's settlement cycle, so money reaches your bank some days after the order, not instantly. Two safety rules: your store must never ask customers to type card details into your own pages — the gateway's hosted checkout handles cards so the sensitive data never touches your server — and payment disputes (chargebacks) are answered inside the gateway dashboard with your invoice and delivery proof.

The usual causes are test keys used on a live store (or the reverse), a gateway account not yet activated for live payments, or the method not enabled for your sales channel in Bagisto. Match the key mode to the store mode first; that is the most common fix.
No. Bagisto takes no cut. The percentage you see deducted is your payment gateway's transaction fee under your merchant agreement with them, and it applies on every platform that uses that gateway.
