An operating system is a long-term decision. This page explains how long Zorin OS 18 will receive updates, what arrives free forever, what a future major version means for Pro buyers, and how the upgrade routes actually work.
Zorin OS follows a different rhythm from Ubuntu itself. Ubuntu ships a new release every six months; Zorin builds only on the Long Term Support releases and polishes each one for years. Version 18 is based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, and Zorin states the commitment plainly: Zorin OS 18 will receive software updates until at least June 2029. Here is what that means in practice, for both free and paid users.

Everyday updates arrive through the Software Updater: security fixes, browser and app updates, and kernel improvements, all listed before you approve them. Nothing installs behind your back and nothing demands a restart in the middle of your work — the single update habit Windows switchers praise most. Point releases like 18.1 arrive the same way, free, for Core and Pro alike.
Because Zorin 18 stands on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, it inherits one of the largest, most conservative software bases in Linux: hardware drivers keep improving, security fixes land for years, and the app versions favour stability over novelty. The trade-off is equally real — you will not get the newest experimental features first. Zorin releases move at a calm, roughly two-year major cadence, and for office and family machines that calm is the point.
Owners of the previous release are not left behind: Zorin provides an upgrade path from version 17 to 18 through its upgrade tooling, keeping files and settings in place. As with any major upgrade on any system, the channel rule applies — take a full backup first, plug the laptop into power, and let the upgrade finish without interruption. If the upgrade tool is still rolling out to your machine, waiting for it is safer than forcing a manual route.
Two money questions deserve straight answers. Core to Pro is an in-place upgrade through the built-in Upgrade Zorin OS app — no reinstall, files and apps untouched, available whenever you decide. The next major version is different: a future Zorin OS 19 Pro would be a new purchase, with a discount for existing Pro owners, while Core users simply download the new free edition. Your Zorin OS 18 Pro never expires either way — you can run it, fully updated, until at least June 2029.

▶️ Watch Full VideoNo. June 2029 is the point until which Zorin guarantees software and security updates — at least until then, in their words. The system keeps working after that date, but running any operating system without security updates is not wise, so by then you would sensibly move to the then-current Zorin release.
No. Update support is identical for every edition — Core, Lite, Education and Pro all stand on the same base and receive updates for the same period. Pro adds layouts, apps and installation support; it does not buy a longer support life.
Open the Software Updater from the menu, let it check, and install what it offers — point releases such as 18.1 are delivered through the normal update channel at no cost. Restart when the updater asks, and you are on the new point release with everything in place.
