When a PC breaks immediately after a monthly update, the cleanest repair is not a repair at all - it is a removal. Windows keeps the previous version of every file a cumulative update replaces, precisely so the update can be rolled back. The Uninstall latest quality update option in WinRE uses that safety net, and for the boot failures reported after updates like KB5094127 it is the fix with the highest success rate in the whole recovery menu.
Uninstall Updates - Choose an option
Uninstall latest quality updateMonthly KB - choose this
Uninstall latest feature updateVersion upgrade only
Quality update = the monthly cumulative package, for example KB5094127
Feature update = a full Windows version upgrade, a much bigger rollback
👆 Two buttons, two very different jobs. Post-update boot problems almost always mean the quality update (panel recreated)
1
Reach the Uninstall Updates Screen
Get into WinRE - interrupt the boot three times, or hold Shift and click Restart from the login screen.
Sign in with an administrator account if WinRE asks.
Click Uninstall latest quality update and confirm.
2
What Actually Happens During the Uninstall
The PC works through the removal on a plain progress screen and restarts on its own. On a hard-disk machine this can take 10 to 20 minutes; on an SSD it is usually faster. Do not power off during it - an interrupted uninstall is recoverable through the same menu, but it wastes the attempt. When it finishes, Windows boots using the file versions from before the update, which is why this fix is so reliable for a machine that was healthy the day before.
3
Quality Update Versus Feature Update - Pick the Right One
Choosing the wrong button wastes a lot of time. Quality updates are the monthly cumulative packages with KB numbers - security fixes and small changes, installed on Patch Tuesday. Feature updates are the big version upgrades that arrive once or twice a year and take an hour. A boot failure the morning after a monthly update is a quality-update problem. Only choose the feature option if the PC broke right after a version upgrade - and know that option disappears about ten days after upgrading, when Windows deletes the old version to save space.

When the Button Errors or Is Missing
We ran into a problem and won't be able to uninstall: usually a pending update action is stuck half-finished. The manual answer is the DISM package removal from the WinRE Command Prompt - remove the package, or clear the pending actions first.
The option is greyed out or absent: the update may already have been cleaned up, or the rollback data was removed by disk cleanup. Move to System Restore and the pre-update restore point instead.
It uninstalls but the PC still will not boot: the update may not be the real culprit, or a second change rode along with it. System Restore to before the update is the next step, then the Safe Mode route.
5
Immediately After Windows Boots Again
Open Settings → Update and Security → Windows Update and click Pause updates for 7 days. Without this, Windows Update will reinstall the same package - possibly tonight.
Use the working week to back up anything important.
When you unpause, Windows normally offers a newer cumulative update that supersedes the bad one rather than the bad one itself.
Honest limit: uninstalling removes that month's security fixes along with the bug. This is a bridge, not a destination - get back onto a later cumulative update once one is available.
🔴 Timing matters: the quality-update rollback works because Windows keeps the replaced files. Aggressive disk cleanup tools that delete the update backup can quietly remove this safety net - one more reason to avoid cleaner apps on a working PC.

Is uninstalling the latest quality update safe for my data
Yes. It reverses only the Windows system files the update changed. Documents, photos, programs and settings stay in place - the machine simply returns to its pre-update state.
Windows will not even show the Uninstall Updates option
That happens when the rollback data is gone or the recovery image is damaged. Your remaining routes are System Restore from the same Advanced options menu, Safe Mode with an uninstall from Settings, or manual DISM package removal - all covered in this series.
KB5094127 is the update I suspect but the screen shows no KB number
Normal - the WinRE button never shows KB numbers; it simply removes whichever quality update is newest. If only one monthly update was installed recently, that is the one it removes.
