First Hour After Windows 11 Install Updates Drivers Activation
The desktop appears and the install feels finished. It is not. A fresh Windows 11 is missing months of updates, some drivers are generic stand-ins, and activation has not been confirmed yet. This first hour, in the right order, is what separates a clean install from a problem PC.

Work in this order - internet, updates, drivers, activation, software last. Each stage depends on the one before it. Installing your apps first and updating around them is how fresh installs end up half-configured and strangely slow.
First Hour Checklist
① Connect internet - LAN cable is the most reliable
② Windows Update - repeat until nothing remains
③ Optional updates - check the driver list
④ OEM drivers for anything still missing
⑤ Activation status - confirm it says Activated
⑥ Your software - only now
The order matters more than the speed. Most first-hour problems come from installing software before the update and driver stages finish.
1
Connect and Update - Fully, Not Once
The ISO you installed from is months behind the day it was made. One Update pass is never the whole story.
Connect by LAN cable if possible - Wi-Fi may still be running on a basic driver
Open Settings, then Windows Update, and Check for updates
Install everything offered, restart when asked, then check again - new updates often unlock further updates
Stop only when Windows reports you are up to date after a fresh check
2
Drivers - Windows First, Maker Second
Modern Windows installs working drivers for most hardware by itself. What remains is specific.
In Windows Update, open Advanced options, then Optional updates - real drivers for your exact devices often wait there
Open Device Manager and look for yellow warning marks - those devices have no working driver yet
For anything still missing, download from the laptop or motherboard maker's support page for your exact model - audio, chipset and Wi-Fi are the usual three
Avoid driver updater packs from random sites. Between Windows Update and the maker's page, nearly every device is covered
3
Confirm Activation Before You Settle In
Activation problems are painless on day one and annoying on day thirty. Check now.
Open Settings, System, Activation - it should say Windows is activated
Most PCs with a genuine Windows 10 or 11 history activate automatically once online, through their digital licence
If it shows not activated, use the Troubleshoot option on the same page - it resolves most hardware-linked licence cases
If you installed a different edition than your licence covers, activation will fail until the matching edition is installed
4
Only Now - Your Software and Settings
With the base stable, the rest is preference, not rescue work.
Install your browser, office suite and daily tools
Restore your backed-up files into Documents, Pictures and Desktop
Sign in to your browser to recover bookmarks and passwords
Take a restore point or a system image once everything works - this exact moment is the cleanest the PC will ever be
🔴 Do not judge a fresh install in the first thirty minutes. Windows indexes files, finishes updates and compiles in the background right after setup. A PC that feels busy at first and settles after updates is normal - a PC still struggling after the full first hour is the one to investigate.

Both methods live on screen - making the USB with Rufus, making it with Ventoy, booting and installing Windows 11 step by step.
Sound is missing after install - is something broken?
Almost always it is only the audio driver. Check Optional updates in Windows Update first, then the maker's page for your model. Dedicated driver guides on this channel cover the full method.
Windows Update is stuck at one percentage - what now?
Give a large update real time first - some sit at one figure while working. If nothing moves for over an hour, restart once and check again. Updates resume rather than restart from zero.
Should I install drivers from the pendrive that came with my motherboard?
Those discs and bundled USBs are usually years old. The maker's website for your exact model carries newer versions of the same drivers.
