How Do I Download and Install MediCat USB on a Pendrive
MediCat USB turns one ordinary pendrive into a complete PC repair toolkit — bootable Windows PE, antivirus scanners, backup, partitioning and password tools. Here is the full install, in the right order, with nothing skipped.

MediCat USB is a free, portable toolkit for repairing computers that will not start, are infected, or have lost data. It runs from a USB drive using Ventoy, so one pendrive can boot many tools and mini operating systems. The install itself is automated by an official installer script — but it is a big download (about 21 GB), it completely erases the USB drive, and antivirus software often interrupts it. Follow the steps below in order and you will avoid all three problems.
User Account Control✕
🛡️
Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?
YesNo
The User Account Control prompt you approve when running the installer as administrator. Formatting a drive is a system-level change, so Windows always asks first.
1
First, Check What You Need
Do not start the download until these four things are ready — most failed installs trace back to this list:
A USB drive of 32 GB minimum. 64 GB or more is recommended, because you will later want room for extra ISO files and backups next to MediCat.
A fast drive helps a lot. A USB 3.0 drive or a portable SSD makes the tools and mini Windows start noticeably quicker.
About 21 GB of download, plus free space on your PC — keep roughly double that free on your system drive for downloading and extracting comfortably.
A working Windows PC and some patience: the download and the copy to USB both take time. Everything on the USB drive will be erased, so back up its files first.
2
Download MediCat from the Official Website Only
MediCat is distributed by its own project, and the project website is the only source you should trust:
Open the official MediCat USB website: medicatusb.com
Go to the Download section and choose the Windows Installer package (a Linux installer also exists).
For the big toolkit files you will be offered a torrent and direct (CDN) mirrors. The torrent is usually the most reliable for a file this size; direct links are fine if your connection is stable.
Never download "MediCat" from random file-hosting or repack sites. Because this toolkit contains password and network tools, fake repacks are a known way to bundle real malware.
3
Extract Fully, Then Pause Your Antivirus
Two preparations decide whether the installer works at all:
Extract the downloaded archive completely to a normal folder on your PC (for example on the Desktop or in Downloads) using 7-Zip or Windows' built-in extractor. Never run the installer from inside the zip window — it cannot see its own files there and will close instantly.
Temporarily pause real-time antivirus protection (Windows Security or your third-party antivirus). MediCat includes offline password-reset and network tools that antivirus programs routinely flag and delete during copying. This is a documented false-positive pattern for repair toolkits.
Keep protection paused only until the install finishes — then switch it back on.
4
Run the Installer as Administrator
Now create the drive. The installer script formats the USB, installs the Ventoy bootloader and copies the whole toolkit for you:
Plug the USB drive into a direct USB port of the PC (avoid hubs), and note its drive letter in File Explorer.
Disconnect every other external drive — external hard disks, memory cards, other pendrives. The installer works on the drive letter you type, and the wrong letter means the wrong drive gets wiped.
In the extracted folder, find the installer batch file, right-click it → Run as administrator.
When the black window asks, type the USB drive letter carefully and press Enter.
Let it work without touching the drive. It installs Ventoy, then copies thousands of files — on a slow pendrive this can take a long while. Wait for the success message.
5
Boot the Target PC and Update the Launcher
Your repair pendrive is ready. To use it on the problem computer:
Safely eject the USB, plug it into the target PC, and switch the PC on.
Open the boot menu — usually F12, F8 or Esc, depending on the brand — and select the USB drive.
If the PC ignores the USB and starts Windows, Secure Boot is probably blocking it — enter BIOS/UEFI setup and disable Secure Boot (there is a separate guide on this page's case list for exactly this problem).
From the Ventoy menu, pick a tool or the Mini Windows environment you need.
Inside Mini Windows, run the MediCat launcher (Start.exe on the MediCat drive), open Apps → Check for Updates and let the launcher and apps update before real work — fresh tools simply work better.
Every click of this process — the download choices, the installer prompts and the first boot — is shown live in the video above, so if any screen on your PC looks different, compare it with the video first.
Boot Menu
UEFI: USB Flash Drive Windows Boot Manager Enter Setup
A typical one-time boot menu (layout varies by brand) — select the UEFI USB entry to start MediCat instead of the installed Windows.
⚠️ One honest warning: the installer formats the selected drive completely. If you type the wrong drive letter, that drive's data is gone. Disconnecting all other external drives (Step 4) is the simplest protection — do not skip it.

Yes. MediCat USB is a free project that bundles free and portable repair tools on a Ventoy-based USB drive. Download it only from the official website (medicatusb.com) — paid or repacked copies on other sites are not official and can be unsafe.
What size USB drive do I need for MediCat?
32 GB is the minimum, because the toolkit itself is about 21 GB and needs working room. 64 GB or more is recommended so you can also keep extra Windows/Linux ISO files and backup space on the same drive.
Will installing MediCat delete my pendrive data?
Yes, completely. The installer formats the USB drive while installing the Ventoy bootloader. Back up anything important from the pendrive before you start, and disconnect other external drives so there is no chance of choosing the wrong one.
