CPUs Without Integrated Graphics Why the Motherboard Port Can Never Work
Some PCs have display ports on the motherboard that are connected to nothing. If your CPU has no integrated graphics, that port was never alive - and no setting, driver or update can change that.

This is the case nobody warns buyers about. You install a graphics card, the motherboard port goes dark, and you spend an evening looking for the setting to revive it - but on your CPU there is nothing to revive. A large share of desktop CPUs ship without any integrated graphics. This page explains how to tell, and what it means for troubleshooting.
Does Your CPU Have Integrated Graphics (illustrative)
Intel Core i5-12400Yes - UHD Graphics 730
Intel Core i5-12400FNO - the F means no iGPU
AMD Ryzen 5 7600Yes - basic graphics on chip
AMD Ryzen 5 5600NO - only G models have it
Examples to show the naming pattern - always confirm your exact model on the maker's spec page

How to Tell What Your CPU Has
Intel: if the model number ends in F (for example 12400F, 13400F, 10400F), there is no integrated graphics. No letter, or a letter like K, means an iGPU is present (KF also means none - K plus F).
AMD Ryzen 5000 and older: only models ending in G (5600G, 5700G) carry integrated graphics. A plain 5600 or 5800X has none.
AMD Ryzen 7000 and newer: most models include basic integrated graphics - but confirm your exact chip, because exceptions exist.
When in doubt, search your exact CPU model on the Intel ARK or AMD specifications page and look for the graphics section. That page settles it in ten seconds.

What This Means for Your PC
The motherboard's HDMI, DisplayPort and VGA ports are permanently inactive. They exist because the same motherboard serves other CPUs - on yours, nothing sits behind them.
A graphics card is not an upgrade on this PC, it is a requirement - for BIOS screens as much as for Windows. There is no fallback display if the card fails.
Keep a cheap spare card or a plan B. If the main card dies, this PC shows nothing at all until a card is fitted, which makes blind troubleshooting impossible.
Every no-display diagnosis changes: port choice, BIOS iGPU options and multi-monitor tricks from the other guides simply do not apply here.

The Honest Word for Buyers
F-series and non-G CPUs are usually a little cheaper, and for a gaming PC with a proper card they are a perfectly rational buy - you never use the iGPU anyway. The trap is only for people who later remove the card, build without one, or depend on the motherboard port for a second screen. If that might be you, the small price difference for the iGPU version buys real flexibility: a backup display, a diagnostic path, and one less dead end. Decide with open eyes either way - just do not spend a weekend hunting for a setting that your hardware cannot offer.

Can a BIOS update or driver add integrated graphics to my CPU?
No. Integrated graphics is physical silicon inside the CPU package. If your chip was manufactured without it, no software of any kind can add it. The only routes to a display are a graphics card or replacing the CPU with a model that includes an iGPU.
My Ryzen PC shows a picture from the motherboard with no card fitted. So it has an iGPU?
Yes - if the motherboard port produces a picture with no graphics card installed, your CPU definitely has integrated graphics (on Ryzen that usually means a G model, or a 7000-series chip with built-in graphics). The confusion only applies to machines where that port has never worked.
The shop sold me this PC without a graphics card and it has an F CPU. It shows nothing. Who is wrong?
The PC as sold cannot produce a display - an F-series CPU with no graphics card is an incomplete system for display purposes. Take it back to the seller: either a graphics card needs to be added or the CPU swapped for a non-F model. This is a configuration mistake, not something you broke.
