After ZV-E10 Firmware 2.03 Update Verify Version and First Checks

The updater said complete - now prove it on the camera itself, run the five-minute checks that matter to a creator, and set the right expectation for a stability-only release.

The update is not finished when the computer says so - it is finished when the camera's own Version screen reads 2.03 and five quick checks pass. This page is that short closing routine, plus the honest expectation for this particular update - success looks like nothing changed, and here is why that is correct.

ZV-E10 MENU - Setup - Version - After Update
BodyVer. 2.03 UPDATED
LensVer. 01
NextTest shot and test clip DO THIS
The one screen that proves the update. If Body does not read 2.03 here, the update did not complete - no matter what the computer seemed to say.

Read the Version Screen - The Only Real Proof

  1. Open MENU then Setup then Version
  2. Body should read Ver. 2.03. This screen is the proof - not the updater's completion message on the computer
  3. The same screen shows the lens version when a firmware-updatable lens is attached, and the mount adaptor version when one is fitted - handy to note while you are here
  4. If the body still shows your old version, the update did not complete. Do not assume - rerun the updater calmly with a full battery and the checks from the preparation guide
  5. One change from 2.02 onwards - when the camera is connected to the internet, this screen can also show information when newer software becomes available

The Five-Minute First Checks

  1. Test photo - reinsert your memory card, take a photo, and play it back on the camera
  2. Test clip - record ten seconds of video with sound and play it back. Creators find problems here first, not in stills
  3. Autofocus touch - tap to focus on the screen and confirm tracking behaves as it did before
  4. Your creator connection - if the ZV-E10 is your webcam or streaming camera, run one short USB streaming test before your next real session, not during it
  5. Date and time - glance at the date and time setting. If it drifted, reset it now so your files stay in the right order

What You Should and Should Not Notice

Set expectations honestly, because 2.03 is a stability release. You should notice nothing new - no new menu, no new mode, no different colours. That is the correct result for this update, not a sign it failed. The verification is the version number, not a visible change.

  1. If you updated because the camera occasionally froze or hung, judge the fix over your next several shoots, not the first hour - rare glitches are proven gone by absence over time
  2. If a problem you had before the update is still there every single time, it was probably never a firmware issue - note when it happens and what is attached, and treat it as its own fault to diagnose
  3. There is no supported way to roll back to the previous firmware on this camera. That is normal for Sony bodies and one more reason the update decision matters more than the update itself
🔴 No new feature appeared - did the update fail? No. Sony's notes for 2.03 list only improved operational stability. If the Version screen reads 2.03, the update succeeded completely, and a camera that looks and behaves exactly as before - minus the occasional glitch - is precisely what you paid ten minutes for.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly do I check the firmware version on the ZV-E10

MENU, then Setup, then Version. The Body line shows the camera firmware. The same screen shows the lens firmware when a supported lens is attached. After this update the Body line should read Ver. 2.03.

The updater said complete but the camera shows the old version. What happened

Then the update did not finish writing, whatever the computer suggested. Treat the camera's Version screen as the truth. Charge the battery fully, check the USB mode and cable, disable computer sleep, and run the updater once more from the beginning.

Can I go back to the old firmware if I do not like 2.03

There is no supported downgrade route for this camera. In practice 2.03 changes nothing visible - it is a stability release - so there is rarely anything to go back from. This is why updating in a calm slot, fully prepared, is the right approach.
