Moon OS System Requirements and Which PCs Should Run It
Light in the name does not mean any ancient PC will fly. Moon OS removes a lot of weight, but the Windows 11 base still sets a floor. Here is the honest hardware picture.

Moon OS is built on Windows 11 LTSC 2024 (24H2), and that decides the basics: it needs a 64-bit processor and it is still a modern Windows at heart. The removals lower the pressure on RAM and disk, which is exactly where old PCs suffer - but no custom build can fix a dying hard disk or a processor from another era. Use the guidance below as a reality check before you spend an evening on the install.
Settings - System - About - what to check on your PC
Processor 64-bit (x64) - required
RAM 4 GB sensible minimum (2 GB boots, painfully)
Storage 32 GB free is comfortable; SSD strongly advised
Old HDD only works, but the disk stays the bottleneck
Illustration: check these four lines on your own PC before deciding.
1
The Sensible Minimum, Not the Fantasy Minimum
Moon OS will typically install and reach the desktop with 2 GB of RAM, because so many background components are gone. But the moment you open a modern browser with a few tabs, 2 GB is full and the PC swaps to disk. For a machine you actually want to use daily, treat 4 GB RAM as the real minimum and 8 GB as comfortable. On storage, the build itself is smaller than stock Windows 11 - listings for this build put the ISO around 5 GB - but updates, apps and your files need room, so give it at least 32 GB, ideally more.
2
The PCs That Gain the Most
Windows 10 era laptops with 4 GB RAM and an SSD - too heavy for stock Windows 11, perfectly usable on a light build for browsing, documents and video
Old office desktops kept for billing, printing or a single work app - the removed extras were never used anyway
A spare family PC for homework, YouTube and light tasks, where a failure is an inconvenience, not a disaster

The PCs That Should Not Bother
Anything with a failing hard disk - a light OS on a dying disk is still a dying disk. Replace the disk with an SSD first; that one change beats every software trick
32-bit only processors - this is a 64-bit Windows base, so very old hardware is simply out
Your only work machine - not because of hardware, but because an unsupported OS on the PC your income depends on is the wrong risk, whatever its specs
One more honesty note: stock Windows 11 refuses many of these PCs because of TPM and CPU checks. Custom builds commonly relax those checks - which is why Moon OS installs where official Windows 11 would not - but that also means you are running outside Microsoft's supported line from day one.
Quick test: if your PC runs Windows 10 acceptably today on an SSD, Moon OS will very likely feel lighter. If Windows 10 already struggles badly on a spinning hard disk, fix the disk first - no custom build can outrun failing hardware.

It can install and boot, because so many components are removed, but daily use - especially a modern browser - will feel cramped. 4 GB is the sensible minimum and 8 GB is comfortable.
Does Moon OS work on PCs that Windows 11 rejected for TPM or CPU?
Usually yes, because community builds commonly relax those setup checks. That is also why it is unsupported: you are outside the hardware line Microsoft tests and supports.
Will Moon OS speed up a PC with an old hard disk?
Only a little. The lighter system helps, but a slow or failing hard disk stays the main bottleneck. An inexpensive SSD upgrade gives a far bigger improvement.
