Control Download Station from Your Phone with DS get App

The queue lives on the NAS, but the remote control can live in your pocket. DS get lets you add, pause and check downloads from your phone — at home or away.

Half the value of a download station is that you find files when you find them — usually on your phone, away from your desk. The video's second half is exactly this: DS get, Synology's own mobile app, driving the same queue. Here is the phone workflow end to end, including the one part people rush and should not: opening the NAS to the internet safely.

Install DS get, Synology's Own App

The video shows the mobile side of the station, and the app is DS get — Synology's official companion app for Download Station, free on Android and iPhone.

  1. Install DS get from your phone's official app store — check the publisher is Synology Inc.
  2. Open it and sign in with your NAS address and your DSM account
  3. Your task list appears — the same queue you see on the desktop

Use only the official app. Look-alike download managers in app stores are a classic way to hand your NAS password to a stranger.

2

Add a Download from the Phone

Found a big file while browsing on the phone? You do not need to save the link for later or turn on the PC.

  1. Copy the file's direct link in your phone browser — or open a .torrent file with DS get where your phone offers it
  2. In DS get, tap to create a task and paste the link
  3. The task lands in the NAS queue immediately and follows the same rules — destination folder and schedule — as desktop tasks
3

Pause, Resume and Remove Without a Computer

Full control is the point of the app, not just adding tasks:

  1. Pause a task that is hogging the line, resume it later
  2. Check progress and speed at a glance
  3. Delete a task you added by mistake — note that removing a task and deleting its downloaded file are two different choices; the app asks, so read before you tap
4

Remote Access, Done the Safe Way

Inside your home Wi-Fi, DS get talks straight to the NAS. From outside, the video reaches the NAS through its server link — and this is the step to do carefully.

  1. Prefer Synology QuickConnect or a proper DDNS name over exposing raw ports
  2. Use a strong password on the DSM account and turn on two-step verification for the admin account
  3. Never log in to DSM from a shared or public computer "just to check a download"

Honest bottom line: remote control is genuinely useful — it is also a door into your NAS. Set it up once, set it up safely, and it stays convenient without becoming a risk.

⚖️ The standing rule: One rule runs through every page of this set: download only content you have the right to download — your own files, free and legal releases, and media you own or are licensed to use. The station is just a tool; what you point it at is your responsibility.

❓ Common Questions (FAQ)

Is DS get an official Synology app?

Yes. DS get is made by Synology Inc. and is the official mobile companion for Download Station. Install it only from the official app stores and check the publisher name before signing in.

Can I add a download while I am away from home?

Yes, if remote access is set up — QuickConnect or DDNS with a secure account. The task is added to the same queue and follows the same schedule and destination folder as tasks added from a computer.

If I delete a task in DS get, is the file deleted too?

Not automatically. Deleting a task and deleting its downloaded data are separate choices, and the app asks which you want. Read the prompt before confirming so a finished file is not removed by accident.
