My Eyes Only Snaps Are Not in the Snapchat Data Export

You completed the full Snapchat data export, opened it proudly — and your most private Snaps are missing. Nothing went wrong with the download. My Eyes Only lives behind its own passcode, and Snapchat's data export does not include it. Here is how to rescue those Snaps properly, and the one mistake that destroys them permanently.

My Eyes Only is a separate, passcode-locked vault inside Memories, and it plays by stricter rules than the rest of your account. Snapchat's data-download documentation covers regular Memories — the locked vault is not part of the deal. So if the Snaps you care most about are sitting in My Eyes Only, the export alone will never bring them home. You must move them back to regular Memories first, while you still know the passcode, and only then export.

Snapchat — My Eyes Only
Forgot your passcode?

Creating a new passcode will delete all Snaps in My Eyes Only.

Snapchat Support cannot recover a forgotten passcode — or the Snaps protected by it.

👆 The warning behind the reset option, in Snapchat's own terms. This is not a scare tactic: resetting a forgotten passcode permanently deletes everything in the vault
1

Move Them Out Before You Export

The rescue is simple — as long as you still know your passcode:

  1. Swipe up from the camera screen to open Memories, then swipe across to the My Eyes Only tab
  2. Enter your passcode
  3. Press and hold a Snap, or use Select, and choose the option to move it back to Memories (unhide it)
  4. Repeat for everything you want in the export
  5. Then run the My Data request — those Snaps are now regular Memories and travel with the rest

Do this before anything else on your export checklist. Every other step can be repeated; this one depends entirely on a passcode you still remember.

2

Forgot the Passcode? Read This Before Touching Reset

This is the hardest truth on this page, and it comes straight from Snapchat's own support documentation:

  1. If you forgot the My Eyes Only passcode, Snapchat Support cannot recover it — for anyone, ever. That is the feature working as designed
  2. The reset option creates a new passcode — and deletes every Snap currently in My Eyes Only, permanently
  3. There is no undo, no backup copy at Snapchat, and no tool or paid service that can reverse it. Anyone selling "My Eyes Only recovery" is selling a scam

So the only real options are to keep trying passcodes you genuinely might have used (carefully, your real candidates — birthdays and old PINs are the usual answers) or accept the loss and reset only when you are sure. Never reset "just to see" — seeing costs everything inside.

3

Protect the New Passcode Properly

When you do set or change a My Eyes Only passcode:

  1. Save it in a password manager — the same place your other important passwords live
  2. Do not reuse your phone unlock PIN or your Snapchat password; if one leaks, the vault should not fall with it
  3. Decide honestly what belongs in the vault at all: anything irreplaceable should also exist in a normal backed-up place, because the vault's strength — nobody can recover it — is also its danger

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my My Eyes Only Snaps missing from the data download?

Because the data export covers regular Memories, and My Eyes Only is a separate passcode-locked vault that is not included. Move the Snaps back to regular Memories first, then request the export again.

Can Snapchat Support recover my forgotten My Eyes Only passcode?

No. Snapchat states clearly that it cannot recover forgotten My Eyes Only passcodes or the Snaps behind them. Resetting the passcode creates a new one and permanently deletes everything currently in the vault.

A website says it can unlock My Eyes Only for a fee. Should I try it?

No. No legitimate method exists for anyone to bypass or recover a My Eyes Only passcode. Such services are scams aimed at your money or your account login.
