Which Bluetooth Driver to Install - Laptop Maker Windows Update or Chipset Vendor
When Bluetooth breaks, you will be offered a driver from three different sources - and the wrong one often installs fine, then fails again within days. Here is the honest order to trust them in.

Bluetooth drivers are written for an exact wireless card, and most laptops use a card the maker has customised slightly. That is why where you get the driver matters more than how new it is. This page ranks the three real sources and explains when each one is the correct choice.
Three Bluetooth driver sources, ranked (summary panel)
1 Laptop maker's support page, your exact model tested for your machine
2 Windows Update (incl. Optional updates) Microsoft-distributed, model-matched
3 Chipset vendor (Intel / Qualcomm / MediaTek) generic for the chip familyX Driver updater tools and random driver sites never - wrong matches are common
👆 The trust order for Bluetooth drivers (summary panel, not a Windows screen)
1
First Choice - The Laptop Maker's Support Page
Find your exact model number (sticker under the laptop, or type msinfo32 and read System Model)
Open the maker's support site - Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer - and enter that model
Download the Bluetooth driver listed for your Windows version and install it
Why first: the maker tested this package on your machine, including its Fn-key and power behaviour. A large share of Code 10 and Code 43 errors die here
2
Second Choice - Windows Update and Optional Updates
Microsoft distributes drivers the makers submit, matched to your hardware ID - safe, but often a version behind. Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Optional updates is where Bluetooth driver offers hide. Use this when the maker's site is confusing or lists nothing for your Windows version. The main Windows Update itself also refreshes drivers during regular updates, which is why Bluetooth sometimes fixes - or breaks - itself overnight.
3
Third Choice - The Chipset Vendor's Generic Package
Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek and Realtek publish drivers for their chip families. These are genuine drivers, just not tuned for your laptop. Use them when the maker has abandoned your model - common on older machines - but identify your chip first in Device Manager (the adapter name usually gives it away) and download only from the vendor's own site.
4
Never - Driver Updater Tools and Driver Download Sites
Be direct about this one: third-party updater programs find near-matching drivers, and near-matching is exactly what causes Bluetooth to pair but not connect, or connect but drop audio. Many also bundle unwanted software. Every driver you legitimately need is free from the three sources above.
⚠️ Desktop PC? Your Bluetooth lives on the motherboard or a PCIe/USB add-on card, so your maker is the motherboard brand (or the card brand). Same rule: their support page first, exact model, then Windows Update, then the chipset vendor.

The maker's site lists three Bluetooth drivers for my model. Which one?
Your laptop shipped with one of several possible wireless cards. Match the driver to the adapter name shown in Device Manager - Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek or Realtek - and pick that vendor's package.
A newer driver exists on the Intel site than on my laptop maker's site. Newer is better?
Not automatically. The maker's older package was tested on your model; the newer generic one was not. Only move to the vendor package if the maker's driver fails or your model is no longer supported.
Can I install the Wi-Fi driver instead? My Bluetooth is on the same card.
They are separate drivers for separate functions, usually listed as two downloads on the same support page. Install the Bluetooth one for a Bluetooth fault; reinstalling Wi-Fi will not repair it.
