🧾 TSS Explained

Tally Prime TSS Expired What Stops Working and What Keeps Running

Many offices discover their TSS expiry on update day, at the worst possible moment. Understanding what TSS actually switches on and off turns that discovery from a crisis into a renewal phone call.

TSS — Tally Software Services — is the annual subscription attached to your TallyPrime licence. The licence itself is yours; TSS is the services layer on top of it. The 6.1 to 7.0 update is one of the things that lives in that layer, which is why the update guide starts with checking TSS validity in Help → About.

TallyPrime — Help > About, TSS line
TSS (Tally Software Services) Status : Expired (or: Valid till a date) Expired TSS means: - New releases (like 7.0) are not available to install - Connected / online services are paused - Your installed release + your data keep working

One line in the About screen decides your update evening. Check it before downloading anything. Screen recreated.

What Stops When TSS Expires

  1. New releases. Updates published while your TSS is expired — including TallyPrime 7.0 — are not available to your licence until you renew
  2. Connected services. The online side of TallyPrime pauses: remote access to your data, synchronisation between locations, connected banking and the other Tally.NET-driven online facilities stop working
  3. Statutory freshness. GST and other statutory changes reach you inside new releases. An expired TSS means your installed release keeps yesterday's rules while the law moves on — the quietest and most expensive item on this list
2

What Keeps Running — Your Books Are Yours

Be equally clear about the other side. An expired TSS does not stop your installed TallyPrime from working, does not lock your companies, and does not touch your data. Day-to-day offline accounting on your current release — vouchers, ledgers, inventory, reports, printing — continues exactly as before. Tally is not rented by the month; the subscription governs updates and online services, not your right to your own books.

How Renewal Works

  1. Renewal attaches to your existing licence serial number — find it in Help → About or on your original licence paperwork
  2. Renew through your Tally partner or the official Tally website. Keep the renewal invoice with the licence records
  3. Once renewed, restart TallyPrime and confirm the TSS date in Help → About has moved forward
  4. Then proceed with the 7.0 update — it should now be available to you

Renewal pricing depends on your edition (single-user or multi-user) and current offers — check the official site or your partner's quote rather than any number on a random blog, including this one.

4

Put TSS on the Office Calendar

TSS expiry ambushes offices because nothing in the daily routine mentions it until update day. End the ambush permanently: note the TSS validity date from Help → About, set a reminder one month before it expires, and assign it to a named person — the same person who owns the licence record sheet. Renewal in a quiet month is a formality; renewal discovered mid-filing is a fire drill.

🔴 The honest summary: expired TSS does not break Tally — it freezes it in time. Your books keep running, but updates, connected services and statutory changes stop arriving. For an accounting system, "frozen in time" is a slow problem that becomes a fast one at the next GST change. Renew early, and update day stays boring.

❓ Common Questions (FAQ)

Can I update to TallyPrime 7.0 with an expired TSS?

No — new releases are a TSS benefit, so 7.0 becomes available only after renewal. The good news: renewal is quick, attaches to your existing licence serial number, and your current release keeps working normally in the meantime.

Will TallyPrime stop working completely if I never renew TSS?

Your installed release keeps working for day-to-day offline accounting, and your data remains fully yours. What you lose is everything that arrives from outside: new releases, statutory updates inside them, and the connected online services like remote access and synchronisation.

Where can I see my TSS expiry date?

Inside TallyPrime: Help → About shows the licence details including the TSS validity. Check it there rather than guessing from the purchase year — renewals and offers can shift the actual date.
