Printer Not Printing After Windows Update RAW Driver Fix KB5127648
Since the August 2026 security update, some printers silently stopped printing — the job just errors out or vanishes. Microsoft has now fixed this in the October update KB5127648, but only for one specific group of printers. Check whether yours is in it.

Here is the exact scope, because it decides everything: Microsoft's release notes for the October 2026 update KB5127648 state that it resolves printing failures that began with the August 2026 security update, affecting apps and devices that print through RAW or Generic Text Only drivers. That group is bigger than it sounds — thermal and billing printers, many dot-matrix and legacy office printers, and shared printers set up with generic drivers all ride on RAW or Generic Text Only. If your printer kept working, you are not in this group. If it silently stopped after the August or September updates, you very likely are — and the fix is simply to install the October update properly.

If your printer properties show a Generic Text Only driver or RAW print processor, this guide is written for you.
1
Confirm Your Printer Is in the Affected Group
Open Settings then Bluetooth and devices then Printers and scanners and open your printer
Open Printer properties and check the Advanced tab — note the driver name shown
If the driver is Generic / Text Only, or your print processor is set to RAW, you match the group Microsoft named
Also note when it broke — jobs failing since the August or September 2026 updates fit the timeline; a printer that failed for a different reason needs the general printer method in the video, not this page
2
Install KB5127648 and Restart Properly ⭐
This is the actual fix — everything after this step is only verification and leftovers.
Open Settings then Windows Update and click Check for updates
Install the 2026-10 Cumulative Update (KB5127648) — or anything newer, since later cumulative updates include this fix
Use Restart now when offered — a shutdown and power-on is not always the same thing on Windows with Fast Startup enabled, and print components reload on a true restart
After the restart, print a test page from Printer properties before printing real work
3
Clear the Poisoned Queue
Jobs that failed under the bug can sit damaged in the spooler and block the fixed printer from printing.
Open the printer queue and cancel all documents
If a job refuses to cancel, open Services with services.msc, stop the Print Spooler service, delete the files inside C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS, and start the Print Spooler again
Send one fresh test print
4
If It Still Fails, Rebuild the Printer Entry
Remove the printer from Printers and scanners and restart the PC
Add it again — for billing and legacy devices keep the Generic Text Only driver if that is what the machine needs, the update fixed that path
If a manufacturer driver exists for your exact model, prefer it over the generic one — it is the more maintained route
Honest limit: if printing fails on only one PC while others print to the same printer, the cause is local to that PC, not this known issue — work through the engineer method in the video: spooler, port, driver, in that order
⚠️ Office and shop owners, note: billing counters and shared legacy printers are exactly the machines that use RAW and Generic Text Only drivers. If several counters stopped printing after the August updates, do not replace printers and do not pay for driver fixer tools — one Windows Update on each PC is the documented fix.
🎥 Learn the Complete Printer Method in the Full Video
Drivers, spooler, ports, sharing and the errors in between — the full printer training is in the video, the way an engineer actually diagnoses.
Printers and apps that print through RAW processing or the Generic Text Only driver — a group that includes many thermal and billing printers, dot-matrix units, and older or shared printers configured with generic drivers. Printers using a full manufacturer driver were not part of this issue.
My printer uses the company driver and still does not print. Is it this bug
Probably not. This known issue is specific to RAW and Generic Text Only printing. A manufacturer-driver printer that fails has a more ordinary cause — stuck spooler, wrong port, offline status or a corrupt driver — and the full method in the video covers those in order.
KB5127648 will not install on my PC. What then
Repair Windows Update first: run DISM RestoreHealth and SFC from an administrator Command Prompt, reset the update components, and retry. While you work on that, affected printers genuinely cannot use the RAW path reliably, so a manufacturer driver, where one exists, is the best temporary bridge.
