🧹 Tiny10 Removals

What Tiny10 Removes From Windows 10 and What Breaks Because of It

Tiny10 feels fast because so much is missing. Before that missing piece is something you needed, read the honest removal list — including the two items that change from one tiny10 version to another.

Every stripped Windows makes the same promise: the weight is gone. The question nobody asks until week two is which weight. This page lists what tiny10 takes out, separates what genuinely breaks from what merely changes, and flags the two removals where the answer depends on the exact tiny10 release you installed.

Removal lists vary between tiny10 releases. Your installed build, not any article, is the final word.
1

Why Anything Had to Go

Tiny10's whole reason to exist is subtraction. A stock Windows 10 install carries apps for shopping, gaming, media, communication and cloud storage that a ten-year-old laptop will never open — plus the services and scheduled tasks that keep them updated. NTDEV's releases remove that layer and quieten what remains. The result is the small install size and low memory use the core guide covers. The honest other side of that bargain is this page: some of what was removed is load-bearing, and you find out which pieces only when something you need reaches for them.

2

The Apps That Are Gone

Across tiny10 releases, reviewers consistently report the same headline removals: nearly all bundled apps — the games, trial software, media players and photo viewers that ship with stock Windows 10 — plus Microsoft Edge and the old Internet Explorer, OneDrive, Cortana and the Xbox apps. What remains is deliberately plain: Notepad and WordPad are the famous survivors, along with the core system tools every guide on this site relies on — Command Prompt, PowerShell, Disk Management, Device Manager and the rest of the administrative toolkit.

The practical consequence is simple: you bring your own software. A browser, an office suite, a media player — each one comes from its maker's official website as a direct download. For many old-PC jobs that is no hardship at all. For anyone used to clicking the Store icon, it is the first culture shock.

3

The Two Removals That Differ by Version

Two items genuinely depend on which tiny10 release you install, and honesty requires saying so plainly. Reviewers of earlier tiny10 builds reported that the Microsoft Store is absent and that there is no Windows Security app — meaning no familiar dashboard for antivirus status. The final tiny10 23H2 release, rebuilt with open-source tooling for better component compatibility, is reported by other coverage to keep Windows Defender and BitLocker, and to let you add back components that a clean install lacks.

Do not argue from articles — including this one. After installing, open Windows Security and the app list and write down what your build actually has. The security guide on this site tells you how to protect each of the possible outcomes.

What Breaks, and What Merely Changes

Set expectations with this split:

  1. Store apps cannot be installed the normal way on builds without the Microsoft Store — that includes some modern versions of familiar programs that now ship Store-first
  2. Subsystem features are trimmed: Windows Subsystem for Linux is reported as unsupported, while Hyper-V can still be enabled — developer toys are not this build's audience
  3. Windows Update servicing is the fragile layer — cumulative updates can fail or quietly restore components; the updates guide covers this in full
  4. Small features vanish at the edges: low-use components such as Tablet PC Math and OCR were removed in later releases, and .NET Framework 3.5 had to be deliberately restored in 23H2 — old business software that needs a specific component may need it added back first
  5. Everyday computing mostly just works: independent testers ran browsers, office work, utilities and even games like CS:GO on tiny10 without drama — the core of Windows is intact
5

The Rule Before You Commit

Make a list of the five things the old PC must do — say, browser, Tally, printing, WhatsApp Web and video calls. After installing tiny10, test exactly those five on day one, while reinstalling stock Windows is still a painless decision. A stripped OS is a trade: weight for completeness. The trade is good precisely when your list is short and fixed — and poor the day the list grows a Store app it cannot have.

📌 Bottom line: tiny10 removes the furniture, not the house. Check the two version-dependent items — Store and Windows Security — on your own install, and test your five must-do jobs before you trust the machine.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get the Microsoft Store back on tiny10?

It depends on the build. The final tiny10 23H2 was rebuilt for better compatibility and its coverage notes that missing components can often be installed afterwards, but there is no Microsoft-supported one-click restore of the Store on a stripped build, and community scripts that promise it are another unofficial layer on an unofficial OS. If Store apps are essential to you, stock Windows — or the debloat route in the safer-twin guide — is the honest answer.

Does tiny10 have an antivirus?

Version-dependent. Earlier tiny10 builds were reported by reviewers to lack the Windows Security app entirely, while tiny10 23H2 is reported to keep Windows Defender. Check your own install: open Windows Security and look for Virus and threat protection. If your build has no working antivirus, install a reputable one from its official site before the PC goes online for real work.

Will my normal programs run on tiny10?

Almost certainly yes for classic desktop software — the core Windows tools, browsers, office suites and utilities are all intact, and independent testers ran demanding apps and games without issues. The programs at risk are Store-delivered apps, software needing a removed optional component, and anything that depends on the trimmed subsystem features. Test your essential list on day one.
