Endpoint Central License Upload Failed or Invalid License File Fix
The license cost real money, the file came from ManageEngine itself, and the console still refuses it. Before you panic, work through the four causes that explain almost every failed import.

A rejected license upload feels alarming, but it is almost never a dead purchase. The file, the product and the server simply have to match, and one of them usually does not. This page walks the mismatch list in the order you should check it, so you fix the real cause instead of uploading the same file ten times.
License Upload - What Goes Wrong (example messages)
Invalid license fileFile does not match this product or server
Upload finished, count unchangedOld or wrong file was uploaded
License page still shows TrialFile was saved but never uploaded
The wording differs by build, but the meaning is one of these three. Match your message to the cause below.
1
First Check - Are You Uploading the File Itself
The most common failure is also the simplest. Email clients and download folders create copies and containers, and the console is strict about what it reads.
If the attachment arrived inside a .zip, extract it first and upload the license file inside, not the zip.
Make sure you upload the file exactly as received. Renaming is risky, and opening it in Notepad or Word and re-saving it will corrupt the contents even if the name looks right.
Download the attachment again from the original email and upload the fresh copy. A partial download looks identical but fails validation.
2
Wrong Product, Wrong Edition or Wrong File Type
ManageEngine sells many products, and most of them use a similar-looking license file. A file issued for a different product - for example OpManager or Applications Manager - will not import into Endpoint Central, and the console cannot convert it. The same applies to files meant for a different deployment, such as the MSP edition.
There is also a second file admins often confuse with the product license: the AMS (Annual Maintenance and Support) license. An expired AMS blocks server upgrades and support access, and it is renewed and uploaded separately. If your product license is fine but upgrades refuse to run, you are probably holding the AMS problem, not a broken product file.
3
The License Belongs to a Different Server
A license file can be applied to only one server. If the file was already applied to another production server, or was generated against a different server during a migration, the import on your server can be rejected. Do not keep retrying - note the exact error text, then contact ManageEngine support or the partner who sold the license, quoting your registered email and invoice. They can re-issue the file against the correct server.
4
Still Failing - The Safe Order of Escalation
Log in as the main administrator and try once more from the License page under the profile icon.
Try a different browser session - a stuck console session occasionally mishandles the upload.
Write down the exact error message and your current build number before contacting anyone; support will ask for both.
Contact ManageEngine support or your authorised partner. Never download "license fix" tools or replacement files from forums or file-sharing sites.

Can I edit the license file to fix a small mistake in it?
Never. The file is validated as issued, and any edit - even an innocent one in a text editor - can invalidate it. If something in the file is wrong, only ManageEngine or your partner can re-issue it.
My product license is valid but server upgrades are blocked. Why?
That is usually the AMS (Annual Maintenance and Support) license, which is separate from the product license. When AMS expires you cannot upgrade the server to a later version or use support until you renew AMS and upload the renewed file.
The upload worked but my endpoint count did not change. What now?
You likely uploaded an older file - for example the original purchase file instead of the renewed one. Check the validity date on the License page, and if the numbers do not match your latest invoice, contact the seller with the invoice details.
This guide is based on the Technical Anshu video on this topic. If support re-issues your file, replace every saved copy with the new one so nobody uploads the old file again next renewal.
