Import License in ManageEngine Endpoint Central Step by Step Guide
You bought the license, ManageEngine emailed you a file, and now one upload stands between you and a fully activated server. Here is the exact import, step by step, plus how to verify it really worked.

Outgrowing the free edition is a good problem - it means your network grew. But a purchased license does nothing sitting in your inbox. This page covers the one task that activates it: importing the license file into Endpoint Central, verifying the details the console shows afterwards, and the few mistakes that make a valid file look broken.

After a successful upload, the License page shows your edition, endpoint count and validity like this. Values above are examples.
1
What You Receive After Buying the License
Endpoint Central is free for up to 25 endpoints with 1 technician, and that free edition never expires. The moment your network grows past that - 50, 100, 200 computers - you buy a license from ManageEngine or an authorised ManageEngine partner. After the purchase, ManageEngine sends the license file to your registered email address. There is no long key to type by hand. Activation means uploading that one file into your server console, exactly the way the video above shows.
Keep that email safe. The file inside it is your proof of purchase and the only thing the console accepts.
2
Before You Start - Three Quick Checks
Log in to the Endpoint Central console with an administrator account. The License option sits under your profile, so a limited login may not show it.
Save the license file from the email to the computer you are browsing from. Do not rename it, open it, or edit it in a text editor - even one changed character can make the file invalid.
Confirm you are logged into the correct server. One license file can be applied to only one server, so do not test-upload it on a trial server first.
3
Import the License File - Step by Step
Open the Endpoint Central web console.
Click your profile picture / user profile icon at the top-right corner.
Select License from the menu. The page shows your current edition, license count and expiry.
Click Enter License File.
Drag and drop the license file onto the upload area, or click Browse and select the file you saved from the email.
Click Upload. The console reads the file and applies the new license immediately.
This is the complete method - no installer, no command line, and no separate activation tool.
4
Verify the Activation Worked
Stay on the License page and read the updated details carefully:
Edition - it should now show the edition you bought, for example Professional, Enterprise or UEM.
Licensed endpoints - the number must match your purchase. If you paid for 100 and the page shows 50, stop and contact the seller before deploying more agents.
Validity / expiry date - note this date somewhere you will see it again, like your calendar, the same day.
ManageEngine's own FAQ confirms you do not need to restart the server or its services after applying a license - the new limits take effect right away.
5
What Changes the Moment the License Applies
Everything you already built stays exactly where it was. Your agents, configurations, patch settings and inventory are not reset by a license import. What changes is only the ceiling above them: more endpoints can now be managed, extra technician accounts can be created up to your purchased count, and the features of your edition become fully available. If you moved from the trial, the trial's expiry pressure disappears; if you moved from the free edition, the 25-endpoint wall is replaced by your purchased count.
Buy licenses only from ManageEngine directly or an authorised ManageEngine partner, and pay only against a proper invoice. A "cracked" or "patched" license file from a random website does not exist as a legitimate thing - at best it will not upload, and at worst it is malware aimed at the one server that manages your whole network.
Watch the Complete Video Guide
For the complete knowledge and full installation walkthrough, watch the full video on the Technical Anshu YouTube channel.
Click your user profile icon at the top-right corner of the web console and select License. The same page also shows how many licenses you have in total, which is the fastest way to check your current count.
Do I need to restart the Endpoint Central server after uploading a license?
No. ManageEngine's FAQ states that restarting the server is not required after applying a renewed or new license. The updated edition and counts apply immediately.
Can I apply the same license file on two servers?
No. A license can be applied to only one server. If you run a second server, it needs its own license, and test servers should use the trial or free edition instead of your production file.
This guide is based on the Technical Anshu video on this topic. License details can differ slightly between builds and editions, so always trust the numbers your own console shows on its License page.
