Upgrade Endpoint Central Free Edition to Paid Without Reinstalling
The free edition's 25-endpoint wall is real, but climbing over it is a two-minute upload - not a reinstall, not a migration, and not a lost weekend.

Plenty of admins postpone buying because they fear the upgrade itself. That fear is misplaced: Endpoint Central treats an edition upgrade as a license change, and a license change is one file upload. This page shows the upgrade, states plainly what happens to your existing data (nothing), and helps you buy the right size the first time.
Free Edition to Paid - What the Import Changes

Upgrading an edition is a license upload, not a migration project.

The Upgrade Is a File Upload, Not a Reinstall
Admins delay this upgrade because they imagine a weekend project: back everything up, reinstall the server, redeploy every agent. None of that happens. Upgrading from the Free edition to a paid edition is the same license import as any activation:
Click your profile icon at the top-right of the console.
Select License.
Click Enter License File, browse to the file ManageEngine emailed you, and click Upload.
Read the License page again - edition and endpoint count now show the paid values.
2
Your Data Stays Where It Was
The license changes what the product is allowed to do, not where anything lives. Your managed computers, deployed configurations, patch approvals, software packages, reports and inventory history all remain untouched. Agents do not need reinstalling or even restarting, and ManageEngine confirms no server restart is required after applying a license. The honest summary: the only thing that changes on upgrade day is the ceiling - and the features your new edition unlocks.

Know What You Are Upgrading Into
Paid editions start where the Free edition stops. The Free edition gives you up to 25 endpoints and 1 technician; paid plans begin at 50 endpoints and climb in steps, across editions such as Professional, Enterprise, UEM and Security, each adding feature areas - for example OS deployment and advanced security capabilities sit in the higher editions. Before paying, do two things:
Count your real endpoints using the method in our counting guide, including servers - buying 50 for a 70-machine network just moves the wall.
Compare editions on ManageEngine's edition comparison matrix for the one or two features you actually need, instead of buying the top edition by default.

After the Upload - A Sensible First Week
Add the endpoints that were waiting, in small batches, and confirm each new agent reports in.
Create the extra technician accounts your license now allows, with the least access each person needs.
Turn on the edition features you paid for one at a time, rather than enabling everything on day one.
File the license file and invoice safely - renewal day will thank you.

Will I lose my configurations when I upgrade from Free to paid?
No. A license import does not touch your agents, configurations, patch settings or inventory. Only your edition, endpoint ceiling and technician count change.
Do agents need to be reinstalled after the edition upgrade?
No. Agents keep working throughout, and ManageEngine confirms no server restart is needed after applying a license either.
What is the smallest paid step above the Free edition?
The Free edition covers up to 25 endpoints with 1 technician. Per ManageEngine's pricing page, the minimum paid tier starts at 50 endpoints, so a growing network moves from 25 straight to a 50-endpoint plan or higher.
This guide is based on the Technical Anshu video on this topic. Edition features differ between on-premises and cloud deployments; confirm the feature you need exists in your deployment type before purchase.
