📋 Overview & Step-by-Step Guide

1

Open Endpoint Central and Go to Software Deployment

Log in to the ManageEngine Endpoint Central console. Software deployment works through the Endpoint Central agent (the UEMS Agent) installed on each managed PC, so the target computers must already have the agent and be visible in the console. Open the Software Deployment section — this is where packages, deployment configurations and their reports all live.

2

Create a Package and Add the Silent Switch

Go to Packages and click Add Package. Select the installer for the software you want to deploy — in the video the package is 7-Zip 24. Upload the installer (or point to it on a network share), and in the installation command add the software's silent switch so the setup runs quietly in the background and no window ever appears on the user's screen:

Silent install switch
setup.exe /quiet /norestart
The silent switch is different for every software — it is whatever the software's own vendor documents for an unattended install. If the switch is wrong, the installation can fail silently or pop a window up on the user's PC, so always use the switch meant for that exact installer.

Save the package. It can now be reused in any number of deployments.

3

Create the Deployment Configuration and Select the Target PCs

Now create a deployment configuration and give it a clear name — the configuration in the video is named Install - 7-Zip 24 - All Office PCs. Select the package you just created, then define the target: the computers, custom group, remote office or domain the software should go to — here, all the office PCs. Set the deployment options, such as installing as the system user and whether the deployment should happen at the next agent refresh cycle, at logon, or at a scheduled time.

4

Deploy the Configuration

Deploy the configuration. You can deploy it immediately or let it roll out on the schedule and refresh cycle you set. Endpoint Central sends the package to the agent on each target PC, the agent runs the installer with the silent switch, and the software is installed without the user having to do — or even see — anything.

5

Force a Client PC to Pick Up the Configuration (Optional)

A PC normally receives new configurations when its agent refreshes. If one computer should not wait — for example, you are standing at that desk and want the software right now — run the agent's cfgupdate tool on that PC to make it fetch and apply its configurations immediately:

Command Prompt
"C:\Program Files\UEMS_Agent\bin\cfgupdate" computer

The agent contacts the Endpoint Central server, downloads the pending configuration and starts the installation straight away.

6

Check the Deployment Status and Reports

Back in the console, open the configuration's status and the deployment reports. Every target computer reports back as successful, in progress or failed, so you can see from one place exactly which PCs have the software and which still need attention. For a failed PC, open its execution status to see the reason, fix it, and redeploy to just that machine.

This is the real time-saver of central deployment: one package, one configuration, and a per-PC report — instead of visiting every desk with a pendrive.
