📋 Overview & Step-by-Step Guide
Use Only the Official Route — Your Own Account
There is exactly one safe "Snapchat Memories downloader": Snapchat itself. The My Data export is built into your account, it is free, and it hands you your own memories directly from Snapchat's servers. Every other route — a website, an app or a tool that offers to pull your memories for you — has to log in as you to do it, and that is where accounts get stolen.
Open accounts.snapchat.com and Log In
On your PC or phone browser, go to Snapchat's account page and log in with your own Snapchat account — the same login you use in the app. Check the address letter by letter before you type your password; it must be exactly this:
accounts.snapchat.com
Snapchat may ask for a verification code or an email confirmation before it lets a browser into the account — that check is Snapchat protecting you, so complete it. You can also start from the app instead: open your profile, then Settings, then My Data — it takes you to this same account system. Once you are in, open the My Data page.
Turn On Export your Memories and Submit the Request
On the My Data page you choose what Snapchat should pack for you. The one switch that matters most is Export your Memories — turn it on. Without it, Snapchat sends only account data and history files, and not a single photo or video.
Choose the file format as well — HTML files, JSON files, or both (JSON is the format other tools can read later, so including it costs nothing). Then pick the widest date range offered, so no year of memories is left out, confirm the email address on the account is one you can open, and press Submit Request. That is the whole request — Snapchat now prepares the export on its side.
Download Every ZIP When the Email Arrives
Snapchat emails you when the export is ready. A small account can be done quickly; a library built over years can take days, so do not keep re-submitting — one request is enough. When the email comes, go back to the My Data page, open your exports and download the files from there.
Extract the ZIPs and See What Is Inside
Extract all the ZIP files into one place on your PC. Inside, the export is organised into folders: the memories folders hold the actual photo and video files; the html folder holds an index.html page you can open in a browser to browse the export; and the json folder holds memories_history.json — the master list of your saved memories that the export is built from. Those folder names are exactly the key items Snapchat's own export produces, and they are how you confirm the download you received is the genuine article.
Spot-check a few files: open some photos and play a couple of videos from different years. Only when you have seen your memories safely on your own disk is the backup real.
Or Export Inside the App, a Batch at a Time
For a handful of favourites, the app itself is quicker than a full export. Open Memories in Snapchat, select the snaps you want, tap Export and send them to your camera roll or wherever you keep photos. The app lets you select and export memories in batches — up to 100 at a time.
Know the Limits — My Eyes Only and Expiring Links
Two honest limits to know before you treat the export as your complete backup. First, snaps kept in My Eyes Only are not part of the My Data export — that locked section stays out of the download by design, so if those memories matter, move them out of My Eyes Only first and export them from the app. Second, the download Snapchat prepares does not wait forever: if your link has expired by the time you come back, nothing is lost — simply submit a fresh My Data request and download it when the new email lands.
And once your memories are on your own disk, keep them like any other precious files — a second copy somewhere else (external drive or cloud) means Snapchat is no longer the only place your years of photos and videos exist.
