📋 Overview & Step-by-Step Guide
Meet the Two WinPE Toolkits
WinPE Sergei Strelec is a bootable Windows 11 / Windows 10 PE environment for computer maintenance — hard disk and partition work, backup and restore, diagnostics, data recovery and Windows installation. Recent English builds are x64 and carry both a WinPE 11 and a WinPE 10 kernel in one package.
NHV Boot is a Vietnamese WinPE project, best known for its Extreme edition. It ships a Win11PE (64-bit) together with a Win10PE (32-bit), boots on both UEFI (Secure Boot) and Legacy (CSM), and is built to run from very old computers up to the latest generation.
Compare Size and Boot Speed
Both are full-size rescue ISOs, not tiny utilities — recent Sergei Strelec x64 releases are around 3.2–3.4 GB, and NHV Boot Extreme editions are in the same roughly 3 GB class (exact size changes with every release). Both fit comfortably on an 8 GB or larger pendrive, and both live happily side by side on a multi-boot USB.
On boot speed, NHV Boot makes fast startup and fast app launching a headline feature, with a modern boot menu. Strelec boots a heavier, more complete desktop environment and can also be booted over the network (PXE), added to a hard disk's boot menu, or started on a client machine just by extracting its folder — a trick made for remote support.
Compare the Tools Inside
The overlap is large: both pack the technician's standard kit — imaging and backup (Acronis True Image, Macrium Reflect, AOMEI Backupper), partition managers (DiskGenius, MiniTool Partition Wizard, AOMEI Partition Assistant), data recovery (R-Studio, EaseUS Data Recovery, Active File Recovery), diagnostics (AIDA64, HWiNFO, CPU-Z, CrystalDiskInfo) and Windows password reset tools.
Where they differ: Strelec organises a very deep toolbox with strong networking — network drive mapping, remote access tools and MS-DOS classics (Victoria, MHDD, HDAT2, MemTest86+) for old hardware. NHV Boot adds its own extras: read/write access to APFS (macOS) and Ext4 (Linux) partitions, BitLocker unlocking inside WinPE (password or recovery key required), a built-in screen recorder, and AnyDesk / AeroAdmin for remote control from the PE itself.
Check NVMe, Controller and WiFi Drivers
This is the round that decides most real-world jobs. NHV Boot is built for new laptops: it automatically adds the Intel Gen 11 / 12 / 13 NVMe (IRST) driver when you install Windows with Setup.exe, and it carries drivers for most WiFi + LAN adapters, laptop touchpads and modern audio, with a fast, modern WiFi connection interface — important because a missing NVMe driver is the classic "setup cannot see my SSD" problem on new machines.
Strelec ships a broad driver set too (storage controllers, LAN and WLAN) and gives you a documented way to add your own: copy unpacked drivers (the .sys, .cat and .inf files, not an .exe installer) into this folder on the bootable USB, and they install automatically while WinPE boots:
SSTR\USER\MY_DRIVERS_x64
Subfolder names inside it must not contain spaces. That customization — your own drivers, your own portable programs, even your own boot-time scripts — is where Strelec pulls ahead for a technician who maintains many different machines.
Check Old PC and Low-RAM Support
NHV Boot is the stronger pick for old hardware: its Win10PE 32-bit edition runs on machines with as little as 1 GB of RAM (2 GB recommended for the 64-bit Win11PE) and it even supports 32-bit UEFI boot on machines that offer it. For a dying office PC or an old laptop, that lightweight 32-bit environment often boots where a heavy 64-bit PE will not.
Strelec's current line is x64-focused (the older WinPE 10-8 Sergei Strelec builds also came in x86 and native x86 editions, which is why many technicians keep an old Strelec ISO around for legacy machines). If most of your work is on modern 64-bit PCs, this difference will not matter day to day.
The Verdict — Pick by Job Type
Choose NHV Boot when the job is a new laptop: Windows installs where the SSD does not show up (automatic NVMe/IRST driver), touchpad- and WiFi-dependent work, unlocking BitLocker volumes, or reviving old, low-RAM machines with the 32-bit PE.
Choose Sergei Strelec when the job is deep bench work: the biggest, most organised toolbox, disk imaging and recovery, network booting, remote support sessions, and a PE you can customize with your own drivers and programs.
