📑Chapters

  1. Endpoint Central is installed — now configure it in the right order, not randomly
  2. Give the server a fixed identity — a static IP and a name every agent can always reach
  3. Open the required ports so the console, agents and remote tools can talk to the server
  4. Define the Scope of Management — exactly which computers this server will manage
  5. Deploy the Endpoint Central agent onto the client computers
  6. Create roles and user accounts for the people who will use the console
  7. Configure the mail server so alerts and scheduled reports actually go out
  8. Set up the database backup so the whole configuration is protected

📋 Overview & Step-by-Step Guide

1

Give the Server a Fixed Identity

Everything in Endpoint Central depends on the agents being able to reach the server at one fixed address. Give the server machine a static IP address and a permanent DNS name, and set that name/IP as the server identity in Endpoint Central. If the server address keeps changing, every agent loses contact with it.

Test that client computers can resolve and reach the server by name before you go any further:

CMD
ping <server-name>

Replace <server-name> with your Endpoint Central server's name. Replies confirm the identity is fixed and reachable across the network.

2

Open the Required Ports

Endpoint Central's console, agent communication and remote-control features each use their own ports. On the server's firewall, allow the ports used in this setup — 8020, 8383, 8027, 8443 and 8444 — so nothing in the configuration silently fails later.

Ports
8020, 8383, 8027, 8443, 8444
⚠️ Open these ports only on your internal network or for your own managed computers. Do not expose the Endpoint Central server directly to the internet without a proper secure setup.
3

Define the Scope of Management

The Scope of Management (SoM) tells Endpoint Central exactly which computers it is allowed to manage. Add your domain, workgroup or the selected computers to the scope. Only machines inside the scope can receive the agent and come under management, so define this before deploying anything.

4

Deploy the Agents

With the scope defined, push the Endpoint Central agent onto the client computers from the console. The agent is the piece that talks back to the server on the ports you opened — once a computer's agent reports in, that machine appears as managed and is ready for software deployment, patching and remote tasks.

5

Create Roles and User Accounts

Do not let everyone sign in with full control. Create roles with only the permissions each person needs — for example a technician who can deploy software but cannot change server settings — and then create user accounts and assign those roles. This keeps the console secure and every action accountable.

6

Configure the Mail Server

Set up the mail server settings in Endpoint Central so the server can send email: alerts, scheduled reports and notifications depend on it. Enter your mail server details, save, and send a test mail to confirm the configuration works.

7

Set Up the Database Backup

The final step protects everything you just configured. Schedule a regular backup of the Endpoint Central database. If the server ever fails or has to be rebuilt, the backup is what restores your computers, roles, configurations and settings instead of starting from zero.

✅ With identity, ports, scope, agents, roles, mail and backup done in this order, the Endpoint Central server is fully configured and ready for day-to-day management.
