📋 Overview & Step-by-Step Guide

1

Boot from the WinPE CMD Toolkit USB

When Windows is corrupted, the repair cannot be done from inside the broken system — it is done offline. Plug the Custom WinPE CMD Toolkit USB into the PC, open the boot menu at startup and boot from the USB. Once the WinPE environment loads, open the Command Prompt from the toolkit. Every repair command below runs from this prompt.

🛠️ About Anshu's CMD Toolkit: in his CMD Toolkit series, V1, V2 and V3 are free — one download link: instantremote.in:2087/free-access-998. V4 was never released (the sequence is V1, V2, V3, V5, V6). V5 and V6 cost ₹239 — paid via Paytm on the WhatsApp number shown on his channel and videos, after which he sends the download link.

Find the Real Windows Drive Letter

Inside WinPE, drive letters are not the same as in normal Windows — the letter you know as C: often appears as D:, and X: is the WinPE RAM drive itself. First list every volume:

CMD
diskpart
list volume
exit

Then confirm the letter by checking its contents — the correct drive is the one that contains the Windows folder (in this video, D:):

CMD
dir D:\
⚠️ Do not assume the Windows drive is C: inside WinPE. Verify with dir first — every command below uses the letter you confirmed here (shown as D:), so replace it with your real letter if it differs.
3

Fix Disk Errors with chkdsk

With the drive letter confirmed, run Check Disk on the Windows partition. The /f switch fixes file-system errors it finds — a common cause of a Windows that crashes or refuses to boot:

CMD
chkdsk D: /f

Let the scan finish completely before moving on — interrupting a disk fix can leave the file system in a worse state.

4

Repair System Files with SFC Offline

Next, the System File Checker repairs corrupted or missing Windows system files. Because Windows itself is not running, SFC must be pointed at the offline installation with the /offbootdir and /offwindir switches:

CMD
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=D:\ /offwindir=D:\Windows

The plain sfc /scannow form only works when Windows itself is running — inside WinPE the offline form above is the one that repairs the installed system.

5

Repair the Windows Image with DISM Offline

If SFC cannot fix everything, repair the Windows component store itself with DISM, again aimed at the offline image on D::

CMD
dism /image:D:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth

DISM checks the offline Windows image for corruption and restores healthy components. This step can take a while — let it reach 100% before continuing.

6

Rebuild the Boot Files with bcdboot

Finally, rebuild the boot files so the repaired Windows can actually start. bcdboot copies the boot files from the Windows folder and recreates the boot configuration:

CMD
bcdboot D:\Windows

Wait for the "Boot files successfully created" message before you restart.

7

Restart the PC

Close the Command Prompt, remove the WinPE USB and restart the PC. With the disk errors fixed, system files repaired, the image restored and the boot files rebuilt, Windows should now boot normally again.

✅ Tip: if Windows still does not boot, work back through the same order — re-check the drive letter with dir, then chkdsk, SFC offline and DISM offline — before trying anything more drastic. Each step fixes a different layer, and skipping one often leaves the real fault in place.
