📋 Overview & Step-by-Step Guide

1

Know What Moon OS Is

Moon OS is a customised, lightweight build of Windows 11 made by independent modders — builds under this name are based on the Windows 11 LTSC line, with a large list of components removed and the system trimmed down, so it uses less RAM and disk space than a stock install. That is exactly why it is attractive for old PCs that crawl on normal Windows 11.

📌 Not a Microsoft product: Moon OS does not come from Microsoft, and there is no official Microsoft page for it. The exact build and who maintains it are not officially verifiable, so this page names no developer and no download site — the only download route this guide trusts is the one Anshu himself gives in the video description.
2

What It Removes — and What You Lose

A lite build gets its speed from subtraction. The video walks through what this build strips out on screen: bundled apps, extras and background services that a stock Windows carries are removed or disabled, so almost nothing extra runs at boot and an old PC with little RAM feels responsive again.

The flip side is real: anything removed is gone. Features, media components or services you later need may simply not be there, and on modified builds even security-related components can be among the trimmed items — note exactly what the video shows for this build, and plan your own protection (Step 7) instead of assuming everything stock is still present.

3

The Honest Risks of a Modified Windows

⚠️ Read this before installing: because Moon OS is an unofficial modified build, Microsoft does not support it, and its updates and long-term servicing are not guaranteed the way a stock Windows is serviced. You are also trusting whoever packed the ISO with your entire operating system — a re-packed copy from a random site is a classic way to hide malware. And a modded build does not remove the licence requirement: you still need a genuine Windows licence to use Windows legally. None of this automatically makes it a bad choice for a spare old PC — it means you should go in with open eyes, exactly as the video presents it.
4

Before You Start — the Safety Checklist

Builds like this should always be handled the same way: tested first, never blindly installed on your only working PC. Get these ready first — a spare PC or a virtual machine for the first test; a full backup of anything on the target PC you cannot afford to lose; your genuine Windows licence key; a USB pen drive of 8 GB or more for the installer; and the PC's driver downloads from the laptop or motherboard maker's official site, because trimmed builds may lack some bundled drivers. If any item is missing, fix that first — most problems people blame on lite builds start with skipping this list.

5

Download Safely and Make the Bootable USB

Download the Moon OS ISO only from the source shown in the video description — the same build name is re-uploaded on many random sites, and those copies cannot be trusted. If a checksum (SHA-256) is published with the download, verify your file matches it, and scan the ISO with your antivirus before using it.

Then write the ISO to the pen drive with a standard tool such as Rufus: select the USB drive, select the Moon OS ISO, and start. The drive will be erased, so use an empty one. On most PCs the default partition scheme (GPT for UEFI machines) is correct.

✅ Test before you commit: if you are not ready to erase the old PC, boot the same USB setup inside a virtual machine first and live with Moon OS for a day — check your browser, office apps and printer there before it ever touches real hardware.
6

Boot from USB and Install

Plug the USB into the old PC and restart it. Open the boot menu (commonly F12, F9 or Esc, depending on the brand) and select the USB drive. In setup, choose your language and edition if asked. At the disk screen, select the partition where Windows will go — installing erases that partition, which is why the backup in Step 4 matters. Let setup finish and reboot into the desktop, then remove the USB so the PC boots from its own disk.

7

First Checks After Installing

On the fresh desktop, work through the checks in this order: install any missing drivers from the maker's official site (display, audio and network first); install a trusted antivirus and run a full scan, rather than assuming the build's protection is complete; open Windows Update and see honestly what state updates are in on this build; and test the apps you actually use every day — browser, office, printing — while your old system or backup is still within reach.

📌 The honest bottom line: for a spare or old PC, a lite build like Moon OS can be a genuinely useful second life. For the one machine your work depends on, the safer long-term route stays an official Windows install from Microsoft — stock Windows or the official LTSC — trimmed by your own hand. The video shows Moon OS in action so you can decide which side of that line your PC is on.
