📋 Overview & Step-by-Step Guide
Understand the MSP Layout First
The normal Endpoint Central is built for one company's own IT team. The MSP edition is the multi-tenant version of the same product, made for service providers who look after many client companies at once. The structure is a simple chain: one central server and console at your office, then a customer for every client company, then remote offices under each customer, then the computers inside those offices. Every customer's computers, data and reports stay separate from every other customer's — that separation is the whole point of the MSP design.
Install Endpoint Central MSP and Open the Console
Install Endpoint Central MSP on a server at your own office (or your cloud server) from ManageEngine's official site, and sign in to the web console. Everything after this — customers, offices, agents, technicians — is managed from this one console, so there is no separate tool per client and no hopping between different remote tools all day. You can evaluate it with the trial first and check ManageEngine's site for the current MSP editions and licensing before you commit client work to it.
Add Each Client Company as a Customer
For every client you onboard, create a customer in the console with that company's details. This customer becomes the container for everything belonging to that client: its offices, its computers, its patch status and its reports. When you open a customer, you see only that company's world — nothing from another client leaks into the view. Add your clients one by one in this same pattern as your business grows.
Add the Customer's Remote Offices
Most clients have more than one location — a head office, a branch, a warehouse. Under the customer, add each location as a remote office and define which computers belong to it. This office structure matters later: policies, patch approvals and reports can all be viewed and managed office-wise, and it decides how the agents in that office receive their files, which is the next step.
Set Up a Distribution Server for Bigger Offices
If fifty computers in one branch office each download the same large patch directly from your central server, the client's internet line gets choked fifty times over for the same file. The fix is a distribution server: one machine inside that office is given the distribution server role. It downloads the patches and software packages from your central server once, on a replication schedule, and then serves them to all the agents in that office over the fast local network. The WAN stays light, and deployments at the branch become much faster.
Install Agents on the Customer's Computers
Management happens through the Endpoint Central agent, so the agent is installed on the customer's computers office by office. Once installed, each computer reports into its own customer's account in your console and starts showing inventory, software and patch status. From this moment the computer is fully manageable — patching, software deployment, remote control and troubleshooting — without you travelling to the client site or taking the user's machine away from them.
Create Technicians and Set Their Scope
You do not work alone for long, and not every engineer should see every client. Endpoint Central MSP lets you create technician accounts, give each one a role that controls what they are allowed to do, and then set their scope — the specific customers (and offices) that technician is responsible for. A technician whose scope is two customers simply does not see the other clients in the console at all. This keeps client data private between clients and stops accidents before they can happen.
Run the Daily Work Per Customer — and Report It
Day to day, the work is the Endpoint Central work you already know, just repeated per customer: scan for missing patches, test and approve them, deploy in rings; push and remove software; take remote control for support; and keep an eye on inventory. The MSP advantage shows at reporting time — because everything is separated per customer, you can pull a clean report for one client showing exactly what was patched and done on their machines, which is the proof of work your clients are paying for.
